So how has everyone elses summer been? We live on the Oxfordshire/Northants border and its been cool and wet. I was convinced it was colder than last year so had a look at our files. We keep a note everyday of max and min temps, daily weather and all wildlife we see each day (including first sightings so we can see if birds etc are coming/going earlier/later).
Well the ave temp is about 2.5 degrees lower for June, July and Aug than it was for the same period last year. I didn't have time to check our weather observations but I am sure we have had more wet or showerey days too. We have most definately had more thunder storms this year. Don't usually get many but had one most weeks this summer.
So where are you from? What's you weather like? Better or worse than last year?
Cheers, Helen.

Fife has been wet, wet, wet and did I mention wet???? We have enjoyed possibly 8 beautiful days in total this summer but we have had rain almost every day this month. We have also had very strong winds but up until the last few days it has not been cold - despite these high winds. We were promised in Indian Summer too!

I'll second that from next door in Clackmannanshire - not sure everyone would agree it's been warm though ;) I've found it warm but I came from Aberdeenshire where it is four degrees colder almost all the time - I've been keeping track since I bought the house a year past January. So yes, wet wet wet

Well, Derbyshire is not known for its heat waves - more bracing winds up on these moors. Last year was very wet indeed, so bad we did not get the hay. This year, we have had 4 nice days in August, just enough to get the hay in. Otherwise, its been wet, or overcast most days. May and June were better, with warm days and sunshine.
Its raining today, and blowing a gale, so our usual weather for round here. I think Summer has passed us by again.

Wev'e had alot of gloomy weather. not cold and not wet but miserable.
-
here not far from Ann i would say more dry marmer at the beginning of the year. Wet and stronger winds near the end so far.
My corner end of terrace house really catches the wind.
:)

We had about a week of nice weather here in Lanarkshire when the schools broke up at the end of June, but since then, cold, wet and totally miserable ! :P
Scottish summers - you've gotta love em ::)
-
We have been here 3 years and I can't remember wearing coats where I used to live, admittedly, I used to drive everywhere but I even wear a coat in Summer here!!!! My fave time of year is Autumn, to me, were we live in Scotland, it's Autumn all the time!!
-
Yep its been wet wet and wet here just a bit up the road in Angus. We moved in June about 3 miles north but 300 metres higher. And hey guess what? - its been chillier............ Good job we've got a polytunnel. I'm considering putting a picnic table in the polytunnel so that we can have a few last outdoor meals this year. Still, nothing would drag me away from here. The low cloud hanging between the hills is so beautiful when I remember to look. OH is saying that it is not autumn yet and that September is going to be lovely ....... we'll see

All round bloody awful.

do i only really notice it now becuase i want to grow things and i'm out with the dog every day? maybe 18 months ago when i lived in edinburgh, had no dog, no garden, no veg, i just didn't care, bit seriously, i'm not retiring in scotland, i want a nice warm retirment
-
Seem to remember a similar thread last year, just shows you how the weather has leveled out into one long Autumn!! I am still wearing my wellies and jacket when I go out with the dogs, I am so glad I have stones where my DUcks and Chickens are, they do have soil as well, one part of the garden has a huge tree and underneath is always like a dust bowl, the chickens love it there, roll on winter ;) ;) ;)

Here in the 'sunny south east' of Ireland - it isn't and hasn't been!!! We had a run of 3 days non stop sun in June and then rain - even if the sun is about it rains - rainbows all over the place. If I could find the pots of gold I would be off to warmer climates :-\

Misread this as "looked at our flies!" Wondered what you kept down there that was indicative of colder weather!!!
-
I read it like that too, but there again, I scim read very often and sometimes end up reading things several times as I misread them ;D

Apart from a couple of short showers, it's been nice here yesterday and today. I try to take it one day at a time. Although I did light the fire one night last week...

I managed to get the back grass cut and the kennels cleaned out, put in fresh beds for the girls - then it rained - quite heavy over here, Rosemary. I came inside and put down flea powder all over the kitchen as I'd found a couple on Allez this morning, had lunch then hoovered the carpets and mopped the floors. Then the sun came out but too wet to cut the front grass so I got stuck into cleaning out the duck shed - yuck! It has gaps at the bottom so the mud and s4lt was seeping in - it STANK! The floor is reasonably firm - a couple of sheets of roofing felt over hardboard. I scraped it all out and put down loads of DE, found a very open pallet that fitted inside and put the nesting drawers and some duck boards on top so the birds are on a dry surface at night. Fresh cut straw in the nests - all nice and cosy - had just finished that and was about to put the muck into the compost heap when the heavens opened and down it came again, I gave up outside work after that! It's just so unpredictable. I'm off to Ingliston tomorrow for the Scottish Kennel club Championship Show so I have four layers ready to go on tomorrow.
-
Enjoy yourself Anne!
-
It's been wet and miserable in sunny Glasgow :(
-
Beautiful morning in derbyshire...light drizzle by lunchtime. Then rain got heavier and heavier. V unhappy goat here!!
-
I was very surprised with Ingliston - even had to take off a couple of layers! A bit overcast but not cold and no rain - AT ALL!
-
We were having a bunch of people over for a bbq last night; it was freezing!! Gale force winds and then a bit of rain. Today we went out for a picnic, again freezing gale! Was soo cold. But I suppose it was bank holiday; it's always rubbish weather on a bank hols.
Sigh.
-
It was reasonable here till just after lunchtime then the heavens opened and down it came - YET AGAIN!!! I'm getting pig sick of it! ::)
-
Don't worry about the summer folks
It's now officially AUTUMN ;D ;D ;D
-
Autumn huh?
Do you think it might rain?
-
OMG! The heavens have just opened and I'm not sure I've seen rain this hard!!!!

Told 'em that at work, now its September but they said I was miserable! Big thunder and lightening storm this afto, got soaked (in my lovely new jacket from the sales - was nice this morning!)
-
Well surprise surprise... it's raining here in glasgow!!!! We're waiting with bated breath for a few dry days to let the mud dry out down on our site, so we can lay hard core roads and parking, at the mo, it would just sink into the mud bath!!!!
-
Well of course its raining here. We don't talk about the dry days at all we just talk about how heavy the rain is at any moment - as it never stops. 'IRELAND' why didn't I pick Spain?
-
Rained continuously today, sometimes light and sometimes very very heavy. Sulky goats and rabbits, wet pigs and chickens here in Derbyshire. Also very cold, had heater on at work despite 3 layers of clothing. My room is always 3 degrees colder than the rest of the building anyway so winter woolies at the ready...
-
I'm sooo fed up with the rain - it's just not showing ANY sign of stopping. It's just as well I'm 1000ft above sea level, but I've got a boat at the ready just in case ;)
-
Our house has been all preped for decorating and it looks grim, yesterday the paint was going on but it poured and poured so they went home, they came first thing but went away again and may come back if the rain holds out, I took a break in the rain to put a gazebo up in the garden...for the chickens and ducks.........give them a bit more covered area to roam around in...hope it clears up soon as we all will have foot rot!(http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Nature/rain-035.gif)
