I worry about this but for ages, as its colder weather, I go for a walk, then shopping with the dogs in the car.....I know they could still steal the car but then they could also break into our house. certainly concerns me about buying a house

Even micro chipping is not safe as thieves who steal for dog fighting or selling dogs on to the less scrupulous will remove the microchip. Tattooing is more difficult to remove as it would involve cutting off an ear, or cutting out skin.

Unfortunately I have seen several pics of greyhounds with no ears after having them cut off to get rid of the tattoo :(

A great reminder Doganjo

Louise G, unfortunately these thieves don't care about hacking off ears, which is why American Pitbulls were registered and tattooed on the inner thigh ( it's harder to hack off part of a hind leg without killing the dog).
Pitbulls were being stolen for fighting at the time back in the eighties (  :o am I really old enough to be working in those years! )
The theives would need a microchip scanner and surgical kit to remove an implanted chip which could have been injected anywhere around the dogs neck or back or even migrated somewhere else in the body. Not impossible but a lot of effort for them.
