I just wanted to say hello to everyone, I accidentally found this site when I was looking on the web for the best pig breeds to consider. Low and behold it brought me hear and I've been mesmerized most of the day by so many helpful members here, so I decided to join. Some of the words and phrases are totally lost on me, so please forgive me in advance if I say something that sounds dumb.
A little about my self: I am American. I live in Georgia, the very southernmost part of the state. Most of the year is warm but the Summer is very hot and humid. And the Summer starts in April and lasts until October. The winter has no snow (I like that part) and the whole 2 months of it, everyone around here can't stop complaining ::) Anyway, I used to own a small zoo with over 200 animals, 35 different species and I loved the animal part of the operation and it was very successful. After 15 years I had just had it with the public and decided to down size and start up a camel dairy. My husband and myself moved to the South of the state and purchased 45 acres to do just that. We have been here a little over a year now and are going to be breaking ground on our dream home tomorrow!!! I had my beautiful barn built first (barns come first, right?).I'll share photos of it if you like. I'm very excited to have found such a knowledgeable group of people on the web.

Goodness, TAS is really an octopus - we do have far reaching tentacles, don't we? A very warm welcome to you, cameldairy!
I would certainly like to see photos. I built my own house a few years back and would love to do it again.
-
Hi and welcome. We'd love to see photos.
Forgive my ignorance but is a camel dairy really what it sounds like? Do you milk camels?
-
Thank you. Yes we will be milking camels ;D. Most of my photos are too big for this site. :(
-
If you post videos to youtube and photos to photobucket - both are free - yuo can then put the links in a message on here and size doesn't matter at all!
-
Ok, thanks. http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff30/CranberriesMom/frontofnewbarn.jpg lets see if I did this right...that's the front of my new barn.

Yup, beautiful big barn and a wee dug in front! ;) ;D

Hello, nice to see those photos, I've learnt something too, may post some photos myself ;D, now we need camel smileys!!!! :llama:

Camels for milk, sounds good.
-
I remember John telling me that he had allowed a guy to take his camels into the compound to water and feed them and was rewarded with a glass of camels milk. He said it tasted foul but he had to drink it or the Arab herdsman would have taken it as an insult. Has the taste improved dramatically or was he just unlucky to have been given bad milk?
-
I was in georgia last year. what a beautiful place. i hope you enjoy the site as much as I do. welcome!
-
Thank you, I think drinking fresh camel milk must be an acquired taste. I couldn't imagine drinking ANY milk warm, couple that with his glass of milk was probably not even strained or very clean?? I don't know. But it is a very delicious drink when the camel has been on nice fresh grass and good grain. Or maybe John was given a bad glass, the Arabs may have been playing a trick on him. :D
-
Heloo and welcome. So what does your camel milk get used for? Who's your market. All very interesting. Opened my eyes to so many unusuals since being here.

Possibly, but he was well liked by the Arabs, he used to go running in the waddies so knew them all. he worked in oil and ran the engineering side of the compound, which is why he was able to let the camels in - there was a sand storm I think. Maybe it is just an acquired taste. He wasn't much of fan of plain milk anyway.

All those lovely animals, but not even one little piggie!! (http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Animals/pig-02.gif) Welcome to the site!

Thank you for the welcome and YES I will have 2 new little piggies delivered TOMORROW evening!!!!! :pig: :pig:  I am getting them from a good friend where I used to live. Also, this morning my weather vane of the flying pig was delivered! I bought it to put on the top of the new "pig palace" my husband built! I'll take and post photos as soon as it's up. AND of my two new oinkers. I'm SO excited, I've had pigs before, but these will be the first on our new farm.

Just noticed your tag line what is a capybara?
-
A capybara is the world's largest rodent. (http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff30/CranberriesMom/drivewaycleanupcrew.jpg) (http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff30/CranberriesMom/Cranberryhavingasnack.jpg)

I used to work with a guy like that!! Lol
-
I think they're cute - I think I want one of those
-
Has anyone else noticed the colour of the sky in all these pictures? Its BLUE :o I didn't realise it came in that colour - I seem to have only seen White grey and black for some reson this year :gloomy:
Your place looks amazing, I am so jealous.
-
Thank you so much. I wouldn't make it very well if I didn't get blue skies most of the time. Did you know that a lot of the times it rains here, the crazy sun is still peeking through the clouds, but that's when the best rainbows appear. If it's too gray where you live just scoot on over here to my farm and get your share of the sunburns. ;)
-
Please don't tempt me! It has rained all day here and I'm looking out watching everything getting out of hand because I just can't get out there. Never mind at least we don't have to worry too much about water shortages - I'm in Ireland by the way - moved here from London 3 years ago for the quiet life and some land - got the land and the quiet, but not the quiet life!!
-
Wow I do love those capyi thingys can I have one too
-
Wow, you certainly have some more unusual stock!!! Just looking at that picture makes me imajine what the sun was like!!!! ::)
-
I used to work with a guy like that!! Lol
I used to know a guy like that too - Didn't call him "Bobby" by any chance? ;D ;D ;D
