A week or so ago we had a box of eggs pinched from our honesty box. My dad found them in the field the other day whilst strimming. They had taken them out of the box and lobbed them over the hedge. This morning somebody has stolen the cash box which was screwed onto the honesty box. As far as we know there was no money in it as we have only had enough eggs for our regular customers for some weeks, unless somebody owed us £1.20 and had popped it on but that would have been all. I expect to find that in the hedge at some point too.
What is the matter with people? Imagine appearing in court for causing criminal damage to a home made honesty box , throwing eggs over a hedge and stealing an empty tin. There must be more profitable ways of breaking the law? Sad. Very sad.

It must be kids surely.

its sounds like a small crime but i bet it ruined your day and upset you. seems so pointless, id be mad too.

No idea but we were camped in a layby (near Stafford) in our VW camper one night when someone drove up after midnight and threw an egg at it before driving off at high speed. If anyone can explain that behaviour answers on a postcard please.

Sorry, that was me. It was one of the ones the idiot threw over our hedge. Long drive from devon to find a vw parked up it was too. :excited:

I'm not surprised Stereo. Our chickens stopped laying for two weeks for no apparent reason. They stated again when I fitted a padlock to the nest box lid. Only I know exactly who did it and it wasn't children, just a childish adult.
Sister stopped selling farm gate eggs when people started stealing the eggs. We never had a problem but they were not in full view. We did get short changed a few times though and no doubt since we left things have got worse and perhaps we would have had to stop. Petty jealousy was constantly a problem as when some people see you apparently enjoying life they have to try to spoil it for you to somehow make themselves feel better. Could be something as simple as that Stereo.

you can get cheap working cameras these days and put up a sign (CCTV) - even if the camera's a fake. That might deter them. Hope it stop s either way, how annoying for you :bouquet: :&>

Our hens have become sick and tired of US stealing their eggs, so they've now decided to either stop laying or hide them very well indeed.
Calculating this year's production based on last year's, we should have about 1800 eggs lying undiscovered beneath a bush somewhere. The question is, which bush!? :roflanim:

We suffer from this when there's a major accident on the A44 and traffic is diverted round the back lanes. I only ever put out two boxes at a time, top up at lunchtime and take in any unsold eggs at night. It's a spiteful thing to do, as well as a dishonest one.
-
Same reasons I've stopped putting eggs and an honesty box out - worked well for a few years, then a spate of eggs being tossed all over the lane and the money going missing. But people come over the bridge and down the drive for them now they know I'm here - if the car's there that is. :innocent:

We are giving it another go. Our neighbours are so nice and it's nice to be able to sell them really good tasty eggs at a very good price. If it happens again, we'll move it over to the house or just sell them out of the farm office.
