Title: New farm
Post by: Hillview Farm on December 07, 2013, 12:46:09 pm

This week has been a very exciting week! We have just bought a new truck and we pick it up today  ;D
But most importantly I have just taken on a new farm!!! Going to need some grazing to get it back to its glory as its not been grazed for 2 years just had hay taken (although the grass is good at the mo i'm sure it can only improve)

So I thought i'd add a picture of the view from one of the fields

Thanks all :)

Its an L200, they aren't great for real heavy off road work but they aren't bad for someone to potter around the farm in and pull a trailer like we want

Congratulations!

There was a farm for sale near me recently, only ~130  acres, and I had a severe case of lust over it.  However, zero chance of raising the money, since I have no profitable farm accounts history to justify a business loan, and even if I could raise the money it would be a good few years of building up stock or adding to the loan to get stock in to start with, before there was any significant (ie liveable) income.

With a large, busy family, I could not see a way to make it happen.

If you can do it though Hillview, I am mucho pleased for you.  And more than a touch envious...  () ;D ;D

I have an L200 , done 180k now and still going strong---I can tell you it is fine for heavy work. Mine pulls heavy trailers all day most days
paid £3k for it when it had done 80k and done very little to it since

Was this the one you messaged me about before you put in your bid?

No we didn't go for it in the end. I was approached about this land not 2 miles from home and I've jumped at it!

Fully stock fenced with some really good quality grass. the ewe lambs move in next week I hope! :)

Sounds and looks great! :)

Congrats! :D also we have an L200 and they are superb at heavy offorad work, far better than any landrover as they have a proper 4x4 and diff system

Congratulations.

L200s are decent trucks, Hilux's are better but for heavy off road work nothing is a patch on a Landrover.

What's not proper about a LR diff system?

I was wondering that....and how is permanent 4 x 4 not 'proper' either....

Because lrs only have a center diff, pajero, shogun and some l200s have a centre and rear diff and centre diff, some evev have front diff aswel,  so thus all 4 wheels turning at the same time when diffs are in.

The 4x4 systems on some cars can be changed on the move up to 60mph ( or similar) so if you start to spin can quikly engage low range or diff etc without having to stop the car....
Also something like a shogun has much higher torque to ground ratio and more hp

Sorry if I offended anyone, im part of an offroading group and we have just found that if landrovers and some other cars are all completely standard, because of the diffs we have got other cars further, however landrovers have got a higher ground clearance so its a catch 22 and landrovers nearly are always midofied in some way

Just from mine and my friends experiences and facts from the cars, I may be wrong about some peoples lrs if they have had diffs added etc :)

I have a LR defender, and will have to take your word for it since my tech knowledge is v limited.  But thanks for the explanation!

My LR gets me around well enough in the mud and snow, however.

The question is not always 'which vehicle will make it' but 'which vehicle will make it with a 12ft trailer on the back'...
