This is my first year selling lambs and I have 3 I am looking to sell all born in May-June I do not have a weight scale for them yet and I have someone interested in on , what sort of ruff price are Shetland and scotch mule lambs going for just now , s.knox

At Skipton market you will be lucky to get 1.14 per kilo, less comission
-
is that liveweight?
-
Yes that is live weight , just struggling to determined what the average weight would be as i dont have measuring units
-
we brought in 4 shetland lambs this year for breeding stock @ £40 per head but their future offspring will be fattened and slaughtered as its a premium meat, British lamb from Tesco is selling at £12 per kilo.

Sold lambs at thainstone 66 avarage

Unreg Shetlands born that late prob only £30ish. Registered quite a bit more.
Scotch mules maybe double.
-
For weight, my April born Shetlands are roughly 26 - 30 kg live weight at the moment. Meat back from butcher was 13 - 16kg per lamb at end of November.
-
my May born ones were only 11-12kg deadweight end Nov, (which is less than earlier born ones ive taken at similar time in previous years) so the lateness of birth will impact.
-
i knew they wouldnt be worth much , what is the best age to slaughter lambs for meat
-
For Shetlands I would say 15-18 months old as hoggett. The don't put on weight in winter however much food you shovel in and once they have fattened on grass in spring and early summer year 2 they are superb.
-
I've just paid £25 a head for 4 Shetland wethers which I plan to run on until around October/November next year.

I think an awful lot depends on where you are located ;) but good luck with your sheep
