Does anyone know if you can get sheep blades/combs for a heiniger horse clipper ? I am wanting to be able to shear next year and as we already have the heavy duty heiniger clippers I am hoping all we need is some blades rather than another full set of clippers ::)

I have a countryman set of blades that fit on a Lister Laser horse clipper. Ok for dagging but hard work to shear. I bought the shear head and proper blades which was much better.
Having said all that I am trying to get round to advertising[size=78%] them as too big for my hands.[/size]

Not familiar with horse clippers I'm afraid, but sheep shearing combs are held by 2 screws @25mm centres and cutters are held by 2 pins @55mm centres. If your clippers measure up, and have no rails/guides to accommodate comb/cutter (sheep gear not as squared up as cattle or equine gear), then they should fit.

The issue is not only of fit but of motor, most horse clippers even if you can get combs to fit wont last a long while if asked to do more than the odd sheep. I ended up buying second hand sheep shears even tho i have horse clippers for that reason.

iv no idea but - i was tempted to try my sheep clippers on the pony as they have a very similar spare blade (cattle one maybe - as they sheep one is a wider blade - teethwise). the difference i saw was the sheep clippers are soooo noisy and powerful. my horse clippers are really smooth and quiet. there is obviously a big difference between the 2 but id be interested to find out how you get on. especially as they are so expensive. i do prefer shearing by hand though - much more peaceful.

I will have to check what the fittings and model of clippers we have tomorrow as they are down in the tac room

If you have heiniger clippers they will fit them all

I checked the horse clippers and they are a low wattage compared to sheep ones I have seen advertised :-\
can anyone suggest a reasonably priced set of sheep ones that would be suitable to do 8-10 sheep max

I got some Lister ones second hand on EBay, you can often find little used ones on there, all in the case, with all the accessories and less than half the new price. Lister will sharpen the combs if you need that too.
Horner are the ones the professionals use but are a bit overkill for 10 sheep.

Hi Sokel, Depends on whether you intend to carry on shearing your sheep yourself. Handpiece + motor + drive + stand + boards = ~ £1k, even if you get reconditioned gear. The budget method is to spend £300+ on a decent set of sheep clippers eg Liscop Super Profi 3000, and £15 on a decent tarpaulin to shear on.

Yes a bit far :D
Think we may either find a local mobile one to do our few or get them done when our local farmer gets his done as his gets done about 30 yards away from our gate ::)

Hi, agree with that! Sometimes I think - isn't it easier to renew all the stuff? But look at prices nowadays..
