I think my post from yesterday was victim to the system problems as it seems to have disappeared.
I am looking to buy an owl box for OH for Christmas. Everything I have seen on line so far seems to be very expensive for a bit of wood.
Anyone got a recommendation?

What type of owl box? Different species need different boxes
Most UK Tawny owl boxes are not very good apparently this guy seems to know what he is on about

Henchard, that's a great link. I will have a longer look later.
As for what type of owl box, I haven't got a clue. I hear owls at night but have no idea what type they are.
We are fairly high up here. Does that make a difference?

As you know we are not far away and we have mostly Tawny and Barn Owls round here.
The Tawny is very recognisable and sounds like this

Oooo, that sounds like it. I guess its a tawny owl box I want then. Thanks
The recording made me smile for other reasons too. My dad was always very keen on wildlife and when I was a child he bought an LP of wild bird calls. We thought it was very boring as everyone else was listening to Cliff Richards and Adam Faith to name a few.
