Title: Ascott Stopped Trading - Be Warned
Post by: Treehugger on November 23, 2013, 01:23:27 pm
Hi,

Just tried to order from Ascott and the process would not go through payment (thankfully) - then I found the following statement on their about-us page:

I am sorry to advise that Ascott Smallholding Supplies Ltd has ceased to trade with effect from 13 November 2013. All staff have been dismissed and no one is available to answer telephone, email or web enquiries.

A meeting of the company's creditors has been convened for 26 November. Notice of that meeting has been sent to all creditors. Messrs Begbies Traynor in Bath have been instructed to assist the directors convening the meeting. Please send a statement of your claim to them to assist with the preparation of the statement of affairs. Their address is Universal House, 1-2 Queens Parade Place, Bath BA1 2NN.

If you are a customer with an unfulfilled order please note that no goods will be despatched. If you have paid in advance for goods that have not been despatched please contact your credit card company or bank if you paid by credit or debit card If you paid via Sagepay please contact them on 0845 111 4455 to establish if you can obtain a refund.

If you paid via cheque or other means and you have not received notice of the creditors meeting please contact Begbies Traynor in Bath.

More to come I suspect. Recession's not over yet despite what Cameron says.

That is a shame. I met the owner when they were at the smallholder festival last year, and he seemed really proactive.

They used to be located at Four Crosses just north of Welshpool  Gabi and I used to call there regularly for stuff before they relocated to Bath , didn't last long after that move, How sad , they used to be a good supplier . Another loss to the smallholding community .

That's a shame - I met Kate and Mark at last year's Festival and they were a really nice couple. This is a rotten thing to happen to anyone  :(

Seems to have reappeared as ascott-dairy.co.uk rather than ascott.biz.   Couldn't find any reference to a problem.

Hmprh, what a bummer.  I did occasionally buy stuff from them ... but only occasionally as their prices aren't weren't very competitive.  I guess everyone is hard strapped for cash this year and they have felt that through lack of sales. :(

Just had some lidded hayracks from this company www.frenchall-goats.co.uk (http://www.frenchall-goats.co.uk). Excellent product and good value I thought.

Please be "extra warned". I was one of those with an outstanding order, for electric chicken netting, placed in October 2013. Today I was clearing old bookmarks from my browser and tried Ascott's before I did so. I was amazed to find the usual website up and running.

I phoned and asked them what was going on. They found my order on their computer records, so they are also using the same computer records. Because the name of their limited company has changed, they say they can carry on trading with the same online infrastructure, but honouring none of the outstanding orders. And yet they still trade online as Ascott, just as before.

I certainly wouldn't deal with them again.

Thanks for the update Dave, I was on the site a couple of days ago and did wonder why it was still open for business.

We've only just started our shop and it might be worth a look for you: http://www.tasshop.co.uk/ (http://www.tasshop.co.uk/)

Any feedback on range, prices etc welcome. We can source many products on demand.
