I've seen all the hype in the news, my neighbours are all laying in supplies for a serious winter,
I'm ok as i have brought an extra pack of chocolate hobnobs in case i can't get to the shops till 10am one day!!!
So has anyone south of the Highands actually seen snow this year???
-
some here in south Wales .... just showers but rather early in the year for this far south!
-
Nothing here but have to confess I'm getting slightly spooked - my head says we're on the coast etc etc but my heart says get plenty hay down, bags of flour in the pantry and milk in the freezer ::)
-
We had a light skimming first thing yesterday morning that soon went away, this morning is just very wet and windy and cold, horrid morning.
-
Not technically the Highlands - we're in Moray near the Firth, we did get snow yesterday - it started Monday evening and by the following morning it was lying fairly thick.
We had to put out a couple of bales of hay - one for the cows and this year's calves and the other for Tavish the bull and last year's calves, now called the 'Teens'.
The snow is mostly gone today - but we are expecting lots of rain and very strong NW winds. Roll on next May - usually by the second week in May we can expect no more snow...

As you all know we are trying to sell up but when I see forcasts for snow I do bare that in mind when we view houses in the middle of no where!! Our freezers are virtually empty as we were supposed to have been moved out buy now, so looks like we should stock up as the co op across the road may run out!!! (mind you it did when we had the last lot of snow)
-
We had a bit yesterday and a bit more this morning altho it's sleety rain now. However I guess we count as highlands so don't count...
-
I'm in Wales, near to Backinwellies and we had about half an inch yesterday. I know it was forecast so don't know why I was so surprised when I looked out of the window ;D
Luckily we had some nice sun in the afternoon and it all disappeared.
-
whats Snow ? ;D
I guess thats something we will have to get use too ;D
-
Its quite high up where I am though John. I doubt there was any snow yesterday where your new place is
-
We had a couple of inches yesterday but it has gone this morning. It's currently chucking down hail.
-
We had a light fall here in Powys yesterday morning. The sun was out and it looked beautiful though I was frozen looking after my neighbours collies :cold: .... must find out the woolies. The snow stayed all day where the sun didn't get to it but just wet and windy this morning.

We always have snow at the end of Nov here, but yesterday's light sprinkling didn't count. It's more the low temps I don't like although the clear crispy weather can be lovely. Below about -5 or -6 which is most of the winter, and often way below that means that all the water buckets have to be filled with warm water from the kitchen - and there's lots of those at tupping time. Just breaking the ice doesn't work as the buckets and drinkers freeze solid. Even our 1000 litre barrels have frozen solid on occasion.
Lost Lambs in her farm where it seems there's lots of snow and seriously low temps must be laughing at us :roflanim:
Winter's winter and all the media hype passes me by. I stock up every winter with enough hard feed for everything here for a couple of weeks - we've been cut off several times for the best part of a week, then have to wait for the feed stores to restock. We store enough of our own hay to last the winter. We're lucky that our animals are all close to the house so no great distance to go to get to them - although when the snow has been very bad getting to the furthest away ones has not been possible for a day - but that's more to do with our decrepitude.
For kitchen stores, there's always enough to scratch a meal and we have a variety of alternative heat sources for during power cuts. Even when we lived on the edge of town less than 2 miles from a giant supermarket, I still laid in stores for winter - it's built into my genes.
But I have forgotten the chocolate Hobnobs :o :o :o
-
Of course I'll get my comeuppance for saying all that if we have a real humdinger such as '48 I think it was, when nothing moved for about 3 months :tired:
-
I fit gets that bad Juliette we'll walk supplies into you :-)
You can't go 3 months without a chocolate hobnob!!!

I just went out to the local post office with todays baaath time deliveries and sure enough the heavens opened and a hail storm like I've never seen hit us!
Several cars skiddadled over the roads and the poor Yr5 children from school were all huddled under a tree as they'd been out doing their cycling proficiency tests!
I looked down at the 2 gear knob thingies in my landie and decided that now is the time to learn what the smaller of the two actually does....(left that one till the last minute, didn't I?) ;D
-
Most definitely in the Highlands but, yes, we had our first snow since March 2012 (yes, really) yesterday morning - a light sprinkling that got washed away by torrential rain later in the day. Snowline was down to about 500 feet but has now disappeared (ie. to over 1500 feet)
It's now blowing a gale, with occasional sleaty hail.
-
we had a good few cm yesterday and then it was washed away today. 2 very bad crashes on our main road so not fun.
im not ready for winter just yet so no more please...on the plus side the new car wasnt too bad but im wishing i still had my disco.
-
Light sprinkle in Inverbervie yesterday, which was gone by this morning. Just a few miles out from us nothing at all...

That second knob (ooh err) is jolly useful, I wouldn't be able to get to and from our house on the hill without it most winters....(also if something shears off your gearbox arms halfway to an abbatoir going over the Lecht ski area in the early hours of a January morning, and you lose all the high ratio gears, you can get there and back on those second knob low ratio gears!! )

Yeh, got a bit this morning, gone during the day, snowing again just now but very wet and it's warmed up so I don't think it'll settle.
I'd like it to go back to cold and crisp - I love the blue skies and the hard ground!
-
Snowed here on Skye earlier this week, light dusting/1cm on the cars at our low lying area. Higher up there was a reasonable covering and the mountains looked great. Mostly gone except for the peaks now.

We have had quite a bit of snow and the lanes don't look good. We have booked a table to eat out tonight ( first time since the OH had her RTA in July) but Chris does not want to chance walking with her crutches on ice or the drive on country lanes.
Snow is forecast on and off for the next week but the daytime temperatures are predicted to be above 0 C. - not too bad really.
-
It was forecast for Telford earlier this week but the sun shone instead. That was in between the hailstorms. It's very cold and rainy now.
-
Some right down here in Kent last night but not enough to last. Been cold though - frozen hosepipe and drinkers which is not a fun combination. Friends in Switzerland have been posting photos on FB of the snow they're getting there and it looks like a decent amount - just hope it's not headed this way. Still got some chicken house roofs to attach.
