Title: Wanted - Good Old Fashioned Creosote - Suffolk
Post by: SarahJane72 on August 21, 2009, 05:07:30 pm
Hi,
Does anyone know where I can get some really old fashioned smelly creosote? I know that you can't buy it in the shops but there must be somewhere I can get it from. Has anyone got any sitting in there sheds that they would like to sell?
Thanks
Sarah

I assume you know about the high health risks involved in using creosote ? , the reason it was taken out of public sale . Anyway ,  it was available for sale to trade only after the public ban . You could buy it in 205 litre drums , but only if you were trade. I don't know if it is still available now though  ?

cheers

As far as I know it is totally banned.

But

The Railways and the Electricity Board still use it for their Telegraph posts and sleepers - so you need to know someone in the right job, as they say  ::)

The alternative to creosote is nowhere near as good.  I always did my sheds and gates in a mix of creosote and old engine oil.  I really miss the smell of creosote, and the smell of proper tarmac, thats not the same nowadays,.

I have seen creosote - or something like it, advertised in farmers magazines.  In giant drums though.
