Does anyone buy in their wheat by the half tonne or tonne?
I've been buying it in 20Kg bags but considering larger amounts now as I'm using quite a bit of it.
I thought it may be easier, maybe even cheaper?
Is it worth just approaching a local farm? My local agricultural supplier doesn't do bulk.

Hi Clansman, if you have someone else who does what you do in your area you can share a bulk load, otherwise if you contact the rep who supplies your local agri store they sometimes knock a bit off if you put in a regular supply. A local farmer near me was giving me cheap bruised grain and also some free in exchange for duck meat ;)

have you asked east coast viners if they deliver to you? they are in stonehaven but deliver to me and im past aberdeen.
who do you feed the wheat to?
-
shhhh (its for chickens, ducks etc) but I thought the horse forum might be the best place to ask ;)
I can take and store bulk deliveries at work which is nearby and has a forklift etc so one of these tonne bags would be ideal but i'll try the local farmers and see what I can come up with.

def try east coast viners as they are cheaper than my nearest shop, even with a delivery charge. im sure they travel widely.
a farmer is your bet tho we dont have much wheat around here.

Have I got the right place?

I bought just over 1/2 ton from a local farm, definitely cheaper!
-
what sort of price are you paying for it?
I'm buying 20Kg bags at £7.50 a time so half a tonne would cost me £187.50
-
Farmer was charging £175 a ton
