Hey,
We have been busy making our own hand cream using left over beeswax, honey and oil infused with dried marigolds. We have had positive feedback and some people have asked to buy. Can we legally do this? Does anyone have any experience of this? how can we take this product to market, cheers, Ray

You need to talk to "Plumseverywhere". She has to comply with lots of health and safety legislation with regular testing at public health labs for analysis and labeling of ingredients before she can sell her lovely soaps to the public. have a look at her website for contact details .

Hi Ray
You will need to pass your recipe to a cosmetic assessor (such as Scott Grainger) to give you a cosmetic safety assessment certificate, then you need to get insurance (I W Wallace, craft insurance are fab - about £80 a year) and then register with the CPNP (EU portal) so that everyone world wide can see you are fully compliant with regulations :)
Your labelling needs to be in INCI terms (eg. goats milk becomes 'capri lac', oats becomes 'avena sativa' etc) and you must store all MSDS forms and batch numbers so that you have full traceability.
Its all lots of red tape but worth it once you've made your way through so that you can sell without fears of prosecution knocking on your door! Trading standards are becoming very hot on stopping illegal cosmetic sales and I know of several soap sellers who a\re not compliant being banged to rights.

:wave: , sounds lovely but there is a lot of legislation due to the risk envolved of being sued!! My eldest daughter is a cosmetic consultant but down under, its something that goes over my head and when she visits and goes out into any shop, she reads the lables and sometimes takes them off shelves :o but I do understand the principles, the laws and legislation change daily and are different all around the globe!!! Plumbs and a few other on here like Happyhippy, know their stuff....far too complex for me!
