Right, I will start by saying this is a strange one :D
Around Christmas every year I try to find a "paint scented" candle. It's for my Dad as he remembers every year growing up they painted the house to make it nice for Christmas. To this day everytime he smells paint he tells us it smells like Christmas. This year I have decided to give it one last try to see if these even exist, so sorry for the early start, I know its only November! I have looked around online and tried the usual Yankee Candle shops and such but no luck as of yet. I said I would see if any of you knowledgeable folks on here would know anywhere online I could get these or even if you can order "custom scented" candles.
Any help is welcome! Thanks for reading

There's a few candle makers on here - I'd love to try it - got some of the necessary ingredients. Might be having a Central Scotland Smallholders craft day before Christmas.
The difficulty will be getting the 'paint smell' essence without the fumes. How about a paint manufacturer?

I might see if I can get in touch with a paint manufacturer and see what the smell actually is. If you could make one I would be very interested in getting some from you. I live in Ireland so probably wouldn't be able to attend a craft day but I would definitely be interested in getting one delivered if you could do that? Firstly I will try to get in touch with a manufacturer to find out what the smell is and if it can be gotten without poisioning a room full of people with paint fumes :fc: ;D

As I said I've never tried candle making but a few people on here do. Hope someone can help. Sounds a real fun present for your Dad. :excited:

Oh sorry I misunderstood you, I thought you were a candle maker. I could give it a go myself or maybe I could find someone who could make one for me. I have just sent an email to a paint manufacturer who I am sure will think I am mad ;D Maybe they are right, I basically asked how them how do they make their paint smell :roflanim:

It might be easier to actually paint a door or something for christmas ;D

If the paint smell was of oil based gloss paint , that used to be linseed oil , no idea what it is now .

I was thinking that too

Thanks for that Rusty, I will see if linseed oil is what I am after. I imagine whatever is in modern paint will be toxic anyway and probably not suitable for burning in a candle. I think the painting a door might be a back up plan. Could be difficult to wrap though :innocent:

No probs , if ' the smell ' is linseed based oil paint and you try to either make a candle with linseed oil added , make sure you use raw linseed , as boiled linseed is made with very toxic chemicals , i don't use boiled linseed for that reason .
Not noticed the smell when burning linseed oil myself really , but you can get little glass oil burners , glass jars about the size of a tennis ball , with a thick cotton wick . Just fill with linseed oil and light the wick ! Even use an oil lamp .
I made some linseed based paint with powder and oil to paint an old cart , and it smelt the same as old paint .
When i was 14 ish , my dad had a building maintenance firm , and i worked with the painter and the glazier , who both used linseed oil , to make paint and to mix with putty . My job was mixing the powder and oil . The powder came in tins about the size of a 5 gallon drum . The linseed came in 45 gallon drums .
The painter died and the glazier retired , so dad employed new younger men , and the paint was then bought ready made in 1 gall tins , as now . The putty then came ready mixed in tubs . How the times change .

just open a tin of paint and put it in the corner?
i know you can paint candles but i would be suprised if it smelt like a pot of paint.
its funny how smells take us back to memories. the smell of garden mint takes me back to being 6 yrs old in my parents garden.
