Title: Feeding Apple Pulp ?
Post by: Pasture Farm on November 11, 2013, 07:26:00 am
Ive just been to see our local cider company and he has said I can have some of the apple pressings to try for the pigs. I have no idea how much they can have and how much of their pellets to reduce by.
Im sure its been asked before but would anyone know. (http://overthegate.myfreeforum.org/images/smiles/icon/icon_scratch.gif)

A few of my local pigs were happy with 3 barrow loads of my apple pressings - scoffed the lot straight down!  no idea how much less ordinary food you need...sorry.

countrywide sell apple pressings going on their info single pressed apple pulp contains 4% protein & 35% sugars, double pressings 4% protein & 36% sugars they make no mention of it a a pig feed just cattle & sheep.

have a look on countrywide website for more info on it

I would just feed it to them on top of their usual ration, rather than using it as a partial replacement.

I added a bit of water to our cider waste and consider it as bulk to their usual flour and pellets. But then again I am talking about just a few buckets of it rather than a trailer load.

Another thing to consider - it won't be long before mould starts to form, so feed it quickly. If you have sheep, cattle, chickens, turkeys, they'll eat it, too.
