Right ok I don't know if this is in the right section or not, but we've got a walnut tree that still fruits that fell over a few years back so even though we should have got rid we haven't. I've been picking walnuts today & found some are starting to seed - what do I need to do to encourage them to seed / turn into trees? The rest we will eat but it would be handy to have a few new trees growing in place of the old 1.
Also are walnut trees ok in fields with livestock like sheep & cattle, I know about oak trees & acorn poisoning this time of year. So was just curios x

Don't you just need to stick them in a pot? My mum's neighbour has a walnut tree and they end up with baby trees all over the place. You just have to be very patient though - I believe the saying is you plant a walnut tree for your children.

Yeah they are slow maturing (10 years I think), but I wasn't sure if they just had specific growth conditions x

I think you plant for your grandchildren ;D . I'm sure that I have read that black walnut can be posionous :-\ but I'll look it up...

Just stick them in a pot and leave them outside. They will start producing nuts before 10 years. Ideally walnut trees should be planted in groups of 3 (so an old guy who was an expert told me)

You clearly don't have many grey squirrels- our 3 trees are stripped while the walnuts are still green.
