Post by: madchickenlady on November 05, 2013, 06:51:48 pm
What are the legal requirements regarding keeping an slaughtering pigs? Where can I get information regards starting out - I am a complete novice and want to do my homework first, also considering other livestock options i.e. sheep
Many thanks

Look in the livestock section top left of page, all the info you need to get up and running will be there.

Where are you? I've attached the FSA guidance for Wales & England (Just happened to have it on my desktop!). With regard to the actual process of killing, see the Home Slaughter Association website. Lots of useful publications and (from what I remember) a DVD available.

I would find a pig keeping course near you. We went to a course run by Oaklands. We would highly recommend Robin and Clare.

Easting - thanks for the recommendation !

We also do a book, which gives both the legal and all the practical aspects to keeping pigs.
