Depends what you want to do with the lambs? Slaughter tag (single tag) if they are going to slaughter, breeding tags (two tags one in each ear) for animals that will be used for breeding. I use neither, just sheep breeding tags

Depends also on the NI regs. Eg in England you can use non EID tag for slaughter I believe, but in Scotland everything has to have EID. So best best is to look in the docs animal health should have sent to you or their pages online to see what the local regs are.

Tags wise I tag everything with double tags (so can go for breeding or slaughter) and I use the Allflex bubblegum tags as they aren't madly huge on the Shetlands. I don't tag lambs for a few months unless they are moving off the premises as the tags tend to rip their ears and we have 9 months in law to do it.

We have been using those Bubblegum EID tags for a couple of years and they rarely loose them and I haven't had a point bend or miss when tagging yet.

The small flag tag in the other ear (which we put in later), also from the same supplier can be coloured differently for different years to make quick references later if your keeping them for breeding easier.
