Title: Why does my dog...
Post by: little blue on November 01, 2013, 08:25:26 pm
... have to wait & watch people until they are out of her sight?

Sheba is a rescue, limited socialisation, just starting to settle down now she's older.
We prefer longer walks in the dusk/dark & drizzle, so there's fewer people & other dogs around as she gets over-excited & sometimes nervous-aggressive ("If I bark first, they won't get so close")

But she will actually sit down, just to watch somebody walk away.. then get up & do her thing without another thought.
It make the "walks" longer, and of course, more opportunities for even more people, dogs, bikes, lorries etc to come closer & get her going  ::)

Just wondered if anyone else has an odd dog ?!

One of my girls begins to coulée when she senses another dog/person approaching - even before I can see them!  :roflanim:  (it's a sort of stalking movement when the dog is on a scent, and when the bird stops moving the dog goes on firm point)

She goes off hunting again as soon as they come into view.

Weird beast

Sheba is the opposite - I often notice things well before her as she is busy sniffing everything!
Which is good, as I can then "encourage" her in a different direction - she freaks when people pass too close to her. :/

I admit, I call her "comedy dog" when we are out - she does some funny things! Like walking along the wall while I walked on the pavement tonight, we were nearly eye to eye!!

They are so funny, I notice our pup watches and copies the other dogs every move, its funny, they all have there different traits and I dare not let my Chocolate Lab know I have any teats as she will not leave my side.....They are all usualy fine with other dogs, but some dogs must give out bad signals, we had a walk this week and a Lab jumped over the wall and attacked all our dogs who were on leads at the time, the owner was very apologetic but that's how strange some dogs are. I remember hearing frantic barking coming towards me on a walk and as my dogs were sniffing I had not time to get them on leads, the chap with the pack of 5 dogs started talking to me and all the dogs and mine just carried on sniffing...I often meet a Retriever and she usually wants to come home with me!!
