Could you not buy a cheap touring caravan , one of those 20+ footers , and find somewhere to plant it for a few weeks Sandy ?

That is one option that may be possible, then I will have to store it...although one of the houses we like has a big enough space for one......I know there are a few going cheap this time of  year and once on a site it should be fine.....I wish we had our camper...in fact when we moved to rented up in Scotland we did live in our VW for a night and a day until our rental was ready......!!!
We may only need some where for 2 or 3 weeks so its a consideration, that way I can drive our home to meet my husband from work :innocent:  not sure I fancy camping in the centre of Glasgow though.....we are nice and clean, may shed a few hairs and smell of dogs  a bit!!

There's the caravan site at Millhall at Stirling, it seems to be residential as I've only noticed statics on it, not sure if they allow pets though. May be worth phoning round and seeing if you can get a few weeks in rented property though. Must be holiday cottages locally who allow dogs can't see them being busy at this time of year.

Well things are falling into place as the house we love they need to move into their new home in 3 weeks too so win win, we also may get a small camper van again, it will be good for us to nip off to the highlands etc, I have been looking at dog friendly accommodation and found it strange that some take 1 dog some take 2 some take 3 and some 5.......!! But all appears to  be fitting nicely into place but we will certainly miss this lovely wonderful house......first job in the new house will  be an open fire and not a log burner!!

But you are clever and  handy VF...this time of year there are loads of cheaper motor homes around...I fancy something the size of a big van  with basic stuff in but room for the dogs....hope to travel much more when free from this B*&B

Yes...if  you have nice neighbours, :innocent: that like fresh eggs.  I often look after our neighbours hens,,,,all they need is water and feed and if the person lives next door than even better..the house we like should be OK but if/when we go away for weeks at a time our in laws will look after the dogs and the house as they come up often to see their grandchildren, my brother and sister in law and children live near as well so ideal...we could never leave anyone looking after this house!

Your sale is confirmed though, I presume, since it's not long to the entry date, so just some signing of papers and you're off.  Presumably the purchase is also secured on the new house so again just some signing to do.  Good luck with the move, worst job is sorting, discarding what you don't have room for and packing the rest..  I got packers on when I moved here, best thing I ever did.  No hassle - all I had to do was sort out my animals and birds.  :relief:

we put all our stuff in stoerage and stayed in caravan for 3 weeks then a holiday house for 6 weeks when we were in a similar situation. our goldfish lived in a bucket in the shower during this time and were none the worse for wear when we finally moved into what is now also a previous home.

Here is a link to the cottage, we stayed in.

So your lawyer didn't have all the papers in order then!  You can't pull out this late in Scotland without being sued for various losses unless the offer and acceptance were incorrectly done. Sue your lawyer!

Oh no, Sandy, how disappointing for you  :'( I can't believe how unlucky you have been selling Tower House.I suppose it's quite a limited market though, because it's so big.

 :fc: for next time.

we have a situation, the buyers of the house are using mums solicitors, so we had to find another one

..so when they looked up and said to my solicitor, we need all the relevant paperwork for the extension that was built on the house, (this was done before mum bought the house) they said we might have to get an indemnity insurance, if the council come back and say it never had planning ...

my solicitors reply was... well your firm did the last sale on the house, no doubt you already have all the correct paperwork, so if any indemnity insurance is needed, i will take it as your firm of solicitors will pay for it

 :roflanim: :roflanim: :roflanim:

don't you just love suits :)

The sale was subject to contract, so no suing is going on from us or any others involved.....not even any costs from our solicitors as they will continue from where they left off in any future sale, we had other offers but banks are not lending as much currently. I am not too disappointed as it happens and neither is Steve.

Sandy, I am sorry to hear that your buyers have pulled out but its great that neither of you are too disappointed. That has to tell you that something wasn't right with it.  :fc:  that a good buyer comes along soon.

 Bionic, thanks so much for that, none of the houses we were going after were quite right, I love some more remote ones but then like the reality of living near a bus and train etc,  we had more of a shock a few weeks ago when 2 of my 3 daughters nearly lost their homes, it appears we are all staying put now......

If the extension has been up for more than 4 years and no one has objected to it, it's likely that the council wouldn't be able to take action anyway and would grant a letter of comfort to that effect anyway!!

You may be able to obtain retrospective planning permission :fc:

We got a letter of comfort from the sellers solicitor when we bought this place last year.
Seemed to satisfy all parties and the sale rolled through smoothly.

The problem has been with the lenders...for us and our buyers......they have tightened up and they want a sure bet return to lend money on.  Its a very big and very old house....a bit like me but not very

Hope you find another property soon. As Bionic says that one couldn't have been the right one or you would feel at least a bit disappointed.

Enjoy searching for the perfect one.

Not a properly constituted sale then.  Sorry it's happened, but I suppose you can get on and look forward to Christmas in that lovely old house.  You always have it so beautifully decorated.  I love old houses, and yours has so much Georgian character.  I suppose the pubs might put some people off, but even so it ahs alot going for it.

I feel your pain and frustration. It's bloody annoying knowing there's bugger all you can do about people pulling out of buying.

So long as you're not out of pocket that's fine.  Relax and enjoy your home while it's still yours.  :excited:

The main issue with this place is its expensive to run, then people want to update the heating, electrics etc etc, in a small or normal size house its not too hard to save money for but this is expensive even to decorate, the rooms are big too. Me and my husband even talked of staying here if we came into money and just doing all the jobs as it is an ideal place.....Its back on the market so that long slog of keeping clean although that's good in some ways as you at least are kept on your toes....
