Hi
Me, my husband & two young sons have recently (7 weeks ago) moved to a 9ish acre farm in south ayrshire scotland, we currently have a couple of dogs, 1 cat, some rabbits and our new farm additions 2 white Campbell ducks :&> Daisy & Jemima.
Im looking to research some different animals we could raise on the farm, we have plenty of barns and areas for grazing, I'm a house wife and love animals so looking for ideas to keep me busy/ out of trouble :-J

Hi and welcome to the forum from the bigchicken up in Fife. Plenty of info about loads of different breed from folks on this forum. I do envy your barns that's the one thing I wish I had on my place.

How about a house cow? She would provide milk and meat for the family - you would only have to milk once a day if you leave the calf on. She'd need a companion, ideally, of another bovine but nine acres is more than plenty, especially if you have housing.
Come and see our Shetlands :-)

 and welcome from :sunshine: Shropshire. Goats are good. Very intelligent, affectionate and lots of fun. Only need to have kids every other year or so to keep producing milk. :goat: :goat:

Hi, Hi & Hi, all being well our main field come spring will be getting planted with trees (via a forestry grant) leaving myself a grassed square for dog agility :fc:
I will still have a few acres to play with around the farm, not to sure about cows....I don't think I can breed to slaughter which limits a lot of what I could practically do, I can see myself surrounded by drakes, cockerels and bulls

Hi there good luck on your farming adventure !
We keep chickens and ducks for eggs and rear some for meat the odd turkey as well this year even guine fowl.
We also rear 2 pigs and 2 lambs every year for the freezer the lambs are realativly easy and so are the pigs if there securly fenced in and well feed they just make a bit of a mess lol
We are at Dundonald in south ayrshire

A big hello from Caithness  Exciting times ahead :excited: How about some rare breed sheep ?
Low maintenance and a real feel good factor saving the breed.
