We lost our beloved greyhound Troy on September 19th. We were all devastated, including our 9year old lurcher. While she made out that she merely tolerated him it turns out she actually quite liked him really, and is now lost without him.
So, we decided to get her a friend. We were looking for a dog just out of puppy stage that would be old enough to not bother our dog but young enough to make me go walking more. (Ftp does not go for walks often as she can't see and it confuses her. She prefers our garden where she knows where everything is).
We have been looking round rescues online, and yesterday we were in the town and decided to visit the council kennels. (I think you can guess what comes next!)
We walked in and looked at a few kennels, then the woman showing us round asked if we like lurchers. We were taken into an out building and introduced to an elderly whippet type called Mac is. She came in with an abscess in her mouth so severe she couldn't eat, she is really skinny and riddled with fleas.
We are going to see if gyp likes her in half an hour and hopefully bringing her home ;D

Hope your old girl takes to Mac :fc: he sounds just perfect for your loving home :dog:  and will polish up well I'm sure once he has your family TLC

Lol, the auto correct on my kindle fire is vicious!
It's Mavis, little old lady xxx
-
Sounds like Mavis could be just the one for you. Lets hope they get on well
-
Hope it works out. :fc:

Am loving the name Mavis  :excited:
-
I am keeping everything crossed that this works out. :fc:

I have a lovely hen called Mavis! I think it means thrush (the bird not the infection!) :fc: :excited:

We took Gyps to meet her, and so far so good. They were very waggy but not OTT when they first met, then they were walking together like they were old pals ;D
We have brought her home until the weekend initially, if all goes well we take her back on Saturday and they will microchip her and we will sign for her and that's it.
We stopped off for sausage sandwiches on the way home and she got some sausages - she just about stood on my partners shoulder to get to them so manners is clearly something to work on!
When we got home the two dogs had a bit of a chase about then Mavis snuggled up to OH. She had to get a bath as she was covered in flea poo even though they said she had been frontlined. She didn't smell too pleasant either.
She has really taken to OH and it just feels like she belongs here. Fingers crossed gyp and Mavis continue to get on well and come Saturday she will be officially ours.

If she is getting sausage she has definitely fallen on her feet :roflanim: Lets hope the rest of the week goes well and she gets a permanent home with you
-
She looks perfect. ;D Hope it goes well :fc:
Mine will do anything for sausages. ;D

I cannot believe how alike Mavis is to our old whippet/lurcher 'Gypsy' ( long gone :'( )
She looks very at home there, she knows where she is well off ;) :fc: for Saturday to hurry up.

She's lovely

Thats a really nice story - and I really hope it works out wonderfully well for all of you. It would be lovely if you could turn her life around :fc:

Lucky Mavis :)

lovely

So far so good, she is still getting on with gyp.
I don't think she has lived indoors before and she is such a thief!
She is always hungry but it has to be little and often as she is so skinny. She disagrees with this method and stole eight eggs and a tub of margarine the first night.
Everything is now kept in cupboards and not on the work top!
Hurry up Saturday ........
-
Not long now - just a day and a half and she'll be yours :excited: - to have and to hold, for better for worse - regardless of how much she steals :roflanim:
Just watch the margarine and butter - if sicked up on a carpet you never get rid. The fat attracts the dirt no matter how often you shampoo it. :'( :'( :'(
-
They must all be the same. Our Gypsy stole food all her life despite being so fussy with her dinners ::) and she ate a chip pan full of lard then vomited it up on the bathroom carpet which subsequently had to be thrown out. As Doganjo said, you just cannot get rid of that grease :P
Child locks on cupboards may be in order after Saturday :innocent: Hope time flies for you over the next couple of days :sunshine:

I am still keeping everything crossed for you - really hope this works out for you all.

Urgh lard!
My other dog (also a lurcher) was a sod for stealing when she was younger. when she was a pup I remember coming downstairs one day and finding her with what looked like blood all over her front legs, chest and face. I thought she had injured herself or been attacked and was halfway to the phone for the vet - when I noticed the chewed up ketchup bottle on the decking.....
I have just made a pound shop fleece pet blanket into a jumper for Mavis after her shivering during the night. Rubbish pic but you get the idea ;) Today she has learned to do sit, give a paw, and is just getting the hang of lie down. Very clever girl, our old greyhound took months just to learn his name and the meaning of the word 'no' lol.

She's hilarious!! love her pastel jumper!! Think she's got you :dog: :bouquet:

She is lovely. We have just rescued a lurcher dog that was being badly treated by its owner.
Short version of story is it ran away from home turned up at our place a bag of bones and cuts on legs
Owner turned up to collect it and when the dog saw him it ran into the barn and hid from him :(
We offered to take him and find him a home and the bloke jumped at the chance

Love her jumper. she has certainly landed on her feet at your house. Roll on tomorrow....Party :D

What a good idea for the jumper. She looks very comfortable in it
