Title: Slap Mark
Post by: droveway on October 25, 2013, 08:42:29 pm
Hi Our Pigs are off in a couple of weeks. I have been looking at slapper from mail order companies, Is there much difference in quality?  Could any one recommend a good one?
                                                Kindest Regards
                                                                          Pete.

We bought ours from Supplies for Smallholders. It's only been used a couple of times but so far so good

Agreed. Suppliers for Smallholders produce very good ones. Also advice about how to use them. Bit scary the first time, but suprisingly easy once you've had a bit of practice.

Slap firmly on each shoulder and do it while they're feeding.  Count how many marks you'll need to do and count as you go as once they rub against each other you can lose sight of who has and hasn't been slapped.  We do it a couple of days beforehand so they go to the abattoir as unstressed as possible.
