yep - my sore finger tips can testify to my gathering. I try and collect a bucket a day ( but keep out of the woods on Thursdays and Sundays when hunters are about). I can't stand chestnuts but the pigs love them.

I picked up a load yesterday but find it really fiddly getting all the bitter white skin off inside.
I usually roast them which helps a bit, I 've heard that you can make flour of sorts out them and use it in cakes.

Yes!  Love chestnuts.  making Marron glace which is fiddly as hell.  i have found that if you take the dark skin off the outside before you boil them (5 minutes) and then peel the inner skin whilst they are still hot it works best.  The crumbled bits go into soup with chorizo - a favourite in Greenerlife towers!
