Title: Any clues on their sex?
Post by: Sudanpan on October 05, 2013, 07:20:21 pm
Our copper/black maran x cream rested legbar chicks are now 4 weeks old.

One obviously takes after the maran side and the other after the legbar - though interestingly both have the legbar yellow legs. Anyone care to give a stab at what sex they might be? I have a suspicion that they are both males.

Thanks

I'd guess at boys too but I'm no expert on either breed!

Look at the feathers about two thirds of the way along the back - males are pointed, females rounded.  The cockerels' combs will generally start to go red much earlier than pullets. Their legs are often thicker than those of hens.  They'll also spend less time pecking the ground and more looking around. And their walk ...... strutting.
