Title: Mastitis???
Post by: zarzar on October 02, 2013, 08:55:24 pm
 Hi all we recently brought a ewe(zwartble) for £20 at rare breed sale she was declared as having a dropped udder one side, but tonight it seems to have a crack that is leaking old smelly milk udder seems smaller to than it did , called vet and he said it sounds more like Mastitis than a dropped udder and perscribed her some antibiotics any one else experienced any think like this? could her udder possibly become more normal sized?

The affected half of the udder is damaged totaly ,it may crack more or rot  . The unaffected half could go on to produce milk , personaly i would wait  until the withdrawal period for the antibiotics is finished then sell her fat and you should get your money back . Since you bought her very cheaply with a fault then you can't complain to the market , a dropped udder should feel soft just droopy i bet this was hard or lumpy

thanks she came with another ewe who is the one we ideally wanted udder was slightly hard, and wasnt worried about the one side not producing milk, but dont want to much hassle if this going to happen alot even though shes a nice ewe.
