We've had a pretty rotten time lately, most of which I don't really need to expand on. but suffice to say life sometimes likes to see what you're made of !! And then to cap it all just over 2 weeks ago our gorgeous little cat "Fish" disappeared. We have a few cats and whilst we are fond of them, they all live in the barn, are quite happy to rub round our legs at feed time but generally prefer to do their own thing. and have a job to do.
Fish however has always insisted on being different, right from her arrival as a tiny kitten just over a year ago. Her favourite spot is my shoulder and I have spent many hours weeding the veg patch etc. with her laid purring next to my neck.
At first we were not too worried as she is an adventurer but when 2 days became 4 then 6 and on into double figures we feared the worst. Not a door was left un knocked , posters put up, vets rung, websites registered on but no word and we could only assume she had met with a terrible mishap. The place felt emptier without her.
and then this morning she was back, hungry, very jittery, minus a claw and with a half eaten ear.
Through all the recent trials and tribulations the OH has kept tears at bay, and then I appear outside the kitchen window with Fish back on her favourite spot- cue floods and floods ( and I mean floods of tears). Fish now sleeping soundly in one of the dog's beds- one of the good days

:'( :'( , tears of joy.....if only Fish could talk!! must have had a very interesting few days away but so glad that Fish is back!!
-
what a relief, maybe hopped in someones car and found the way back ? - the mystery of cats. wev never had a cat wander but it must be awful.
-
WOW perhaps you're not so far off Shygirl- what do you think of this. just a few minutes ago after i'd posted on here I went onto the Animal Search website to cancel the missing cat posting. I had received a message this morning and this was it
"hello- I am so sorry that I haven't seen this post and photos earlier. A friend of mine rang me this morning to tell me about it. I am positive that the little kitty you have lost was in my garden for a couple of days the weekend before last. I went out as she was desperate to come in. I was worried that my 2 German shepherds would get her but she didn't seem at all afraid of them she was very friendly and when I picked her up she jumped on my shoulder just like you describe. I fed her for a couple of days but sadly she hasn't been back since. Now I know a name I will go and call for her. If you send me a contact number I will ring is any news. sorry I didn't see this before"
Who knowsfor sure, but 2 extraordinary things
1 tavistock is 25 miles away from us and would have involved crossing amongst other things about 10 miles of open Dartmoor moorland
2 until we moved here 3 years ago we had lived in tavistock for nearly 20 years. fish however never lived there and has only lived here.
we'll prob never know for sure but the lady is adamant and we will prob always want to believe she's a miracle cat.

That is amazing, cats do have a sense that we do not use and may well have been looking for you, could have hitched a lift like shygirl said....
-
Don't you just wish cats could talk  glad she's back safe and, though a bit battered, not too badly injured
-
Glad she is back  .
Always scared mine will climb into a vehicle and end up miles away cause she is so friendly and loves strangers ::) . That would be my guess and them picked on by local mogs.
Still ... home now.
-
our persianx is the first to jump in someones car if the doors are left open. infact all my dogs would too. easy done.
-
so true about the car, our neighbours cat often had to be removed from our VW camper when we were getting ready for a weekend away!

They now have all sorts and grow all sorts, in fact I have lost track but she has her horse!! she also works for my other down under daughter who is a cosmetic scientist and consultant who travels the world consulting!!!! My husband hardly posts (he hardly talks) I actually don't think he remembers who he is himself.....I did think about leaving TAS but I feel that people on here are virtual friends!! I would miss them far too much

its funny, you feel like you know people on here but you could walk past them in the street and not know who they were. :eyelashes: often the photos are so different to how you imagine aswell.

;D When I worked for a big local authority, the head of communications was American. I had only ever spoken to him on the phone and he had the most wonderful, rich chocolate voice, if you know what I mean. When I met him, he was about 5ft tall, skinny with frizzy hair - what a letdown. He was a really nice bloke but oh, that voice. :eyelashes:
-
:roflanim: , I ran a business with my mum until I left to have children, we employed a women in her 50's to wash up, she had moderate learning difficulties and was under 5 ft tall and about 5ft round too but her voice was very sweet and high pitched, so many men who phoned to order food were very disappointed when they saw who had taken the order! Maybe that could be an interesting (maybe insulting) thread, people who have never met us describe each of us.. :roflanim:

Iv seen a cat lost for months glad fish is back were she belongs make the most I love my cat very happy for you.
-
Fish is an excellent name. my friend had a cat called Mouse. :roflanim:
-
yep apart from Fish, we've got a cat called mouse too, plus a dog called Bear and a hen called Hen- it makes us chuckle anyway-
-
Absolutely delighted that Fish is home safe - hopefully, she's lost her wanderlust :fc:
-
So glad Fish is home. We had one go missing for 6 months so I know how worrying it is. Fish is a great name. My friend had one called Horse and another friend had one called Paws.
Sandy, don't you dare leave TAS. We enjoy your posts. If anyone thinks you post too often, they don't have to read them.

Yes, stay on board.

I'm so pleased to hear that Fish is home, albeit a little the worse for wear. :cat:
I've had a cat travel 6 miles in the engine compartment of a gold Rover; in the end he got fed up of waiting for me to find him (which was not for the want of trying!), went into a house with a cat flap where he'd been pinching food all week, sat in the middle of their lounge and yowled. They said he practically pointed to his name tag on his collar and said, "Could you please give her a ring?" Ever after that, on car journeys he would be stood on the knees of the passenger with his head in the air vent on the dash - I'm sure he was memorising the route so he could find his way home if he needed to.
25 miles of unknown terrotiry though... I wonder did she somehow manage to cross country herself, or did she hitch a ride back in the vehicle she went out in?
My friend had a dog used to use the bus on his own ::)
-
Apologies re the berk on the left but here she is- back home
-
 that's for Fish, I am a happily married fat old bird..she has that distant look in her eyes, I think she is glad to be safe and with you again...cats are just a bit too independent some times!
-
She's beautiful. So glad she's safely home with her dad.
-
she is really lovely.

A lovely cat. Our ginger tom went missing recently and returned 3 weeks later looking very thin and dehydrated, we think he had been shut in somewhere. A day at the vets on a drip and lots of food now he is home and he has bounced back to his old self, so much so he went out last night and hasn't been seen this morning! How they like to play on our emotions!

we have a bothy that is only used once a week, and the times my ginger cat has followed me in there and hid is ridiculous. you think he would learn. he does manage to leap at the window blinds when he hears me passing by though and begs for help. hes has been in there 4 days at one time without any apparent ill effects. not good.

When my brother in law was re locating and staying with us, one of his cats spent 3 days with my jumpers in the draw under my wardrobe...
-
What a lovely cat - bet she is so pleased to be home
