Hi all,
I have 6 Middle White weaners which have been scouring for over a week. They were wormed when I picked them up and they have since been fed sow cubes and an abundance of apples. I have had them two weeks this Sunday. Any suggestions what could be causing it? I stopped feeding the apples on day 2 as i thought it could be this. I also noticed in a large nettle patch was some deadly nightshade which was promptly removed. it doesnt appear they touched it though.
Going to ring the vet today for some antibiotics to see if it clears it up. Also on Day 2 one of the weaners was sick but none of them have been sick since.

Do they have access to lots of weeds and grass that perhaps they didn't have where they have come from? over indulged? change of food, perhaps try live probiotic natural yogurt.
One of mine is sick if she eats to many apples.
What did the vet say.

I don't have any pigs yet, so no experience to talk from, but I heard that recently weaned pigs sometimes don't understand that they need to drink water alongside their now dry food and that can cause serious digestive problems (and dehydration and death eventually).
Do you know if they are drinking? Could you try mixing some of their feed with water?

scouring can happen with a house move as diet is changed. changing to a barley based diet from a wheat based diet (read the labels to see) can give the squits.
we had it once with bought in weaners.
we bought kaolin powder to add to the food but havent had the opportuity to use it since but it should stop diahhorea if its due to change it diet.

We have successfully treated them in the past with Tylan powder diluted in their drinking water. I cannot now remember if you need a prescription or not. I discovered it in the Andy Case book 'Starting with Pigs', and it has always worked for us too, within 2 days or so.

Thanks everyone. Pigs are much better now with there "exits" now back to normal. No medicine needed. Im presuming it was a mixture of a lot of things, diet change, moving homes etc.
Thanks for all your repleis
