Title: Quails, do they need worming?

I've got 11 female quails and i only get 2-3 eggs a day. I know this could be to do with the reducing light hours but i was wondering whether they need worming as they've been on the same patch of ground for a while.

any help/suggestions appreciated.

We do worm ours .... using Marriages pellets with Flubenvet ... as you would chickens.


We have a lot of pheasants here and worm our poultry at least twice yearly with Marriages.


I lost a couple of quail this year and think it could have been worms as they all looked better after worming. Guess they are just as susceptible as hens. Marriages does not specify using with quail but ours seem fine with it.


Ours are dropping off laying now and as you say it is probably due to being end of season now and not worm burden necessarily.

I only have two girls and a boy, but from 2 eggs a day they are down to 1 every other day.  Mine are in a pen in the garage with access to outside but they don't go - think I'll worm them, but I've started leaving the light on too.

We find them to be very seasonal layers, Easter to September, roughly speaking. Even young birds haven't continued into winter (as you would expect from a hybrid pullet). Never tried light with any poultry. I suppose you would have to follow same guidelines as you do with chickens in terms of number of hours. Don't you have to be quite careful about timings and number of hours to get good results? ..... Don't know much about the fine points of it.

I have just started and am extending their daylight by about 3 hours, that should be OK I think.  I don't think it matters much when I have so few and am non commercial - I just keep them because i like them.  The hens are getting the same extra light being in teh same garage, and it encourages them inside on not so nice days.

I worm my quail with the marriages flubenvet pellets. The first time i bought the stuff online the company phoned me to make sure I knew I was buying medicated feed and explained withdrawal periods etc. they also said you can use it to treat quail the same as other poultry. I do my quail every three/four months as they are kept in an outdoor run on the same ground.
