I had some from these folk last season and have been really pleased with it.  I bought some off ebay at the same time which was a bit cheaper and grew about a quarter as well  :o

Garlic - The Really Garlicky Company, Nairn, Highlands Tel 01667 ... (http://www.reallygarlicky.co.uk/garlic)

Our Scottish Hardneck Porcelain Seed Garlic is available now for Autumn planting. The varietal name is 'MUSIC'. Each bulb has on average 3-5 cloves for planting October/November. Harvest in July. ... is per bulb. Approx 25 bulbs to a kg.

So at 80p x 25 =£20 a kilo including postage?  Might do a better price if you emailed them.  Maybe only within the UK though

Last winter I just planted garlic that we had not cooked with rather than throw it out and we had a good crop this July so may just do that again.

Try going to the wee private garden centres - they are often far cheaper and better quality than big branded garden stores.
And its better to support the wee family run place too.

Its very tempting to use supermarket bought produce for seed etc.  But bare in mind that they could be diseased in some way and it could spread throughout the whole cropping area and/or it could infest the ground.
Garlic cloves could have rust or onion white rot.

Spuds are a good example too.  You should really never use supermarket tubers as seed.  They could bring rhizoctonia (black scurf) into the garden soil.  Although black scurf is peel-able from the tuber, the fungus can also lead to blackleg in a growing crop - nothing you can do for that except pull the plant and tubers out when you see it as it will spread.

If you plant left over cloves really have a good look at them before planting for any signs of disease or damage.

I have always planted what I call my kitchen tatties. Ones we have not used and started sprouting. never had a problem. We do buy proper seed too and again no problem.

I planted garlic bulbs from the Organic gardening catalogue and got 85 heads of garlic, and really good quality it is too... very pleased with them, and their delivery charge is minimal!

I have used Real Garlicky company in the past, but as I get all my other seeds from Organic Gardening catalogue anyway, it is good value. Also their website works very well for ordering.

That's good but how many bulbs  or Kg did you plant to get 85 heads and how much did you pay?

I grew garlic as a kiddie to earn some pennies... have;t done so for many eyars but will this year. As in my youth I;m going to use cheap store-bought garlic despite the theory that one shouldn't... local spar shop and break the bulbs down to their cloves..half a dozen bulbs is enough for our needs lodsa cloves.

We have masses of wild garlic in the roadside and drive verges that wifey uses the leaves and flowers from spring time in salads.

I only had a few failed ones... really good harvest. But then it was a good year for it...
