We went 170 miles to pick up a duck house that OH had purchased on ebay for my new ducks. Its made by flytes so fancy and has an automatic opener on it and I am very pleased with it but ............
Its on wheels but is too big to go through the gates to the duck pen. The pen is surrounded by a 4ft high fence and the duck house is too heavy for OH and I to lift over, me being a weak girlie. It doesn't dismantle either, well at least not without making a complete mess of it. How do we get it to where it should be?
-
You have a duck house moving party  . You invite friends round and you ply them with food and drink  :excited: , After they have lifted the duck house over the fence
-
Depends how big the house is? Is it possible for some strapping farm lads to lift it?
If so, I'd go with Bert, flutter your eye lashes and bribe. :eyelashes:
Or ... cut a hole in the fence? Or ... ask a farmer how he'd do it?
-
It is possible for some strapping farm lads to lift it. Now I just have to find some strapping farm lads. Hmmm, might enjoy this bit :roflanim:
-
Mmmmmmm ...... defo the way to go then :innocent: .
Can be hot work ... they may need to strip off. Young and Not so Young Farmers were forced to take off their shirts at this years village show during the tug of war.
Think local YF, Bionic .... I'd give the not so young ones a miss.
-
can you get a tractor to lift it over? don't know the logistics :fc:
-
What's the fence made of? If stock fencing, cut the fence up one upright, open it up and wheel in the duck house.
Then repair by 1. 'lacing' the two pieces together with the single strand wire you do 'top and bottom' wires with on a fence and then 2. cut a piece of stock fencing several squares wide, and then lace that at either edge, over the first gap.
Ask me how I'm so good at this ::)
-
Its stock fencing with chicken wire on the bottom half.
I will left OH know the suggestions and see what he thinks. Somehow he may not be so keen on the stripped off YF's :roflanim:
-
Push it up against the fence and cut a hole in the wire for the ducks to get into the house.
-
;D that's a good one Castle Farm. Or how about keeping it on one side and building an extension on the other side and joining them by a bridge ::) build a moat around it and a portcullis to keep the foxes out ;D
-
You don't have any farmers nearby - with a tractor and a forklift ?
-
You could have come in for a cuppa :yum: . Flyte So Fancy are only up the road (ish)!
That's as good as me buying a polytunnel on e-bay last week and finding out it had been cemented in ::) ::) . 7 hours of hard labour later, followed by a 120 mile drive :innocent:
-
most farmers have a manotou that would pop it over the fence for you, or a digger would too. just strap it up and lift it over.

It is a flute so fancy house but it was second hand so we didn't get it from them direct. We were up near Welshpool to get it.
At least ours is free standing and it was easy to load onto the trailer.
-
Oh, you could have come here for a cup of tea, Bionic. Only a stones throw away.
-
Isn't there a Carmarthenshire TASers meet on 20th September? Anyone there help?
-
If you don't manage to get it sorted locally drop me a pm and I will get some bods together and come help!

Suziequeue, good suggestion. Little lugs, thanks for your offer. Are you going to the meeting on Fri?
-
I'm not sure what I'm working until tomorrow so don't know yet, will let u know.
-
Hi  Carmarthenshire TAS. Not my area, but have a look on flea bay there is someone giving up farming and lots of useful stuff for sale. Wish I were nearer ::) .
-
You could make a bridge :innocent: , a ramp and a pulley attached so it can be pulled up the ramp, then another the other side where it could slide down......although I could be tricky.....you can make a ramp from planks and build it up to the correct height with something strong enough........  No, on second thoughts, several strong young farmers would be much better

Don't want to be a party pooper, but whats wrong with Castle Farms suggestion?
I would always site any house outside the run as it makes it easier to get to for egg collection and cleaning, and saves treading in any poo just to collect a few eggs, and in my experience ducks are pretty regular pooers.
Is the house not fox proof?
-
I was watching to see if they were just going to pass a Duck house :innocent:
-
DBE, OH had thought of this too. It was me who wanted the house inside the run. The 5 ducks share the area with 2 geese. Its about 35m x 21m with a big pond so they have plenty of space.
If I had it outside the run it would be in the sheep field which I didn't really want.
Doh....Just thought there is a small area on one of the sides that doesn't go into the field that might suit me and the ducks. ;D
Yep, the new house will definitely be fox proof
-
after much :roflanim: :roflanim: :roflanim: Ian and I wondered if we can help lift?
-
Sounds like a lovely house, too good for those ducks leave it where it is it'll make a great cup holder/table, I bet they wouldn't appreciate it.
Did they say thank you for fetching it ?
Tease them leave it outside so they can look at it in envy :roflanim:
-
Linda, thanks for the offer but I think OH has a plan although he isn't saying what it is yet. ???

What were they actually trying to do anyway? Looked awfully complicated.
-
I guess it was a simulation river/ravine situation where they had to get them and their equipment to the other side. They were making heavy going of it though.
The good news is that I looked out of the window a few minutes ago and the duck house was inside the pen. OH had cut through the fence, moved the house and then replaced the fence.
Job done. Ducks don't know what to make of their new house though :roflanim:
-
That's good :relief:
-
maybe OH is going to attach ducks to house and le them fly it in??
Our ducks led me a merry dance today .... I was trying to show them to new small pond but they vanished into bank undergrowth, climbed trees and tried to squeeze through chicken wire to return to their safe house ...... Ian crawled in after them from one end and me the other.... lots of cursing and quacking later they were extracted from hedge only to vanish back into their enclosure.... the pond will wait for another day! (but Ian did spend an hour erecting a diverting barrier for the next attempt.)
