Title: cider vinegar
Post by: bigchicken on September 12, 2013, 08:59:55 pm
While in stocking up on chicken feed I noticed some cider vinegar so thought I would try some on my chooks as everyone seems to use it, my question is what does it actually do. :huff:

I think it's supposed to help their digestive process which means their immune systems are stronger (better able to cope with worms themselves, for example). But really not sure - that seems a fairly dodgy explanation looking back at it. You can only use it in plastic drinkers and I've got a metal one for the hens now - plus we have lots of other water around for the ducks and they muddy it all up so it has to be emptied out daily (in other words, I'd have emptied the cider vinegar in a day).

It is good for the general health and condition of the birds... Digestion, feathers, eggs etc and if you put some garlic in it too its meant to be good for parasites. Apple cider vinegar is good for all animals including humans. Although its a vinegar it helps to neutralise our digestive systems and actually make them more alkaline. This means better digestion, more energy and no bloating. Like all natural remedies its a cumulative effect so you have to take it or give it to any animals you have for a while before you really notice the difference. I give it to all my animals including the dogs... Actually i've never tried the cat! I'll have to google that one, she doesnt drink much water so it wld be a bit tricky! I defo find it improves coats etc even my own mop of hair haha :)

Anyone know the dosage for humans? I take a daily swig from the stuff we buy as it's supposed to be great for you as above and also holds of things like cancer etc. But I'm never sure how much to swig. It's actually not bad when compared to some of the local scrumpys we get around here. Ooaar.
