Post by: Bionic on September 05, 2013, 12:04:08 pm
Do you think I might left some of them a bit too long before harvest  ;D

Ah well I'm off to make a big batch of marrow soup and then we have stuffed marrow for dinner tomorrow.

Yours are nothing compared with the marrow mountain I have here! My kitchen table is covered with them and I'm once again reminded that I'm the only person in this family that likes them (in either courgette or marrow form). I intended to only have one plant this year but planted a few extra seeds and then my mum brought two plants over too so I've ended up with four. Waaaaayyyy to many. At least I've got a range of round yellow ones, long yellow ones and long green ones. They look pretty if nothing else - and the chickens like them too  :)

By the way, marrow and ginger jam is gorgeous.

having harvested nearly 200kg of the stuff I (and the rest of the co-operative members) can't wait for a hard frost!

I can recommend a cookbook called "What do I do with all those courgette?"

As far as the marrows are concerned, marrow and ginger jam is delish.

So how many courgettes a plant?  I am thinking of counting the picking scars when I lift my finished courgette plants.
Courgete pickle.
Thin slices of courgette and onions in saly, wash then dry. Bottle and add mustard seeds and cider vinegar. Fantastic.
Let me know by a pm if you want the receipe and I will check the detail with the chief pickle maker.

We just keep picking them until they stop producing. The pigs get most of them.

Long story, but we've just picked and eaten our fourth courgette this year  :roflanim:   It does mean we really enjoyed all of them for their novelty value  ::)  Two more to go  :garden:
