I don't really know anything about geese. [My goose story as follows ~ Hadn't planned them, but received half doz. eggs as a wedding present last spring. One hatched into a lovely goose, who grew up with my first batch of chicks and was quite content with her chicken friends. That was until January, when I decided that the cockeral that had looked (and sounded) like a hen until that point, had to go and culled him. Goose became very depressed that her friend was missing, so I got her a gander from a woman in Fife. All went well, they seem very happy together.]
Goose laid many eggs from I think 8/9th February, finished in June. I was shocked to find an egg this morning... I read that they only laid in spring. ~ Will she keep going, or is this a one-off? Is it normal to pick up the odd egg at different times?
I feel like the long summer has confused the birds a bit, between my neighbour and I we've had six hens go broody in the last 3 weeks (out of about 15)..?

Hi,this is fairly common,none of mine have don't but I have herd of other who's have.
She may lay a few eggs before she stops again.

Oh - goose eggs - I love them! Do you ever sell any? Years ago, the local butcher used to sell them; but he's gone now, and even before they gave up the shop the eggs went, too...

She laid another last night but it was a soft shelled one :( she seems happy enough, I guess its just her system deciding what its doing.
Hi Ina, yes I sold a few, but with only one goose, never had many, I don't like them! They're too 'eggy' and rich for me, not a huge fan of duck eggs either. My wedding goose is more of a pet, she's not so friendly now she has gander but she used to always be with me when I was outside and come for walks, or come in and watch tv. I love my goose :love:
Anyway... If I get a few I'll let you know.

That's certainly a different wedding gift :D I don't know a thing about geese but what a lovely way to get one. It's interesting to learn they only usually lay in spring too.

Hi,I sell lots of goose eggs in season for both eating and hatching.I would say they are not as rich as a ducks egg.
