Title: First attempt

We finally dispatched our first cockerel on Wednesday at 17 weeks old. Attempted my first dressing. It's a bit of a skinny runt but we have tenderly reared it from an egg and watched it play and dig around. Eating fruit , veg and tasty morsels in between meals playing tug on the apple tree leaves and companionship from the others so all in all he's had a reasonable life. Then came the noise!!  :o so goodby little fella, hope you taste a bit better than you look  :innocent:

I'm quite proud of the first attempt  :eyelashes:
Hope the next one has a bit more on him  :fc:

thats really good for the first attempt - its very easy to rip the skin. all ours were skinny too. looks lovely.
did you hang him for a while?

shows he's been exercising though less breast more leg/thigh...


looks like one happy if now very naked chook!!!

He's been 'hanging' around in the fridge since Wednesday. Just dressed him today

Two finger throbbing hours to pluck and at least an hour to dress  ( wasn't clocking that bit, more nervous about getting it right.)  Two books open for diagrams  :roflanim:

Felt fine about the pluck and dressing. The dispatch is going to take a bit more getting used to  :'(  Don't know who was worse, me or OH  ::)

That looks well done - I've only tried it once and the scald bit didn't work brilliantly, and when I had got the feathers off he was such a scrawny bird it hardly seemed worth the effort (just a small superfluous cockerel).
