Can you please settle an argument that me and the other half have just had :huff:
Which way up dose your boiled egg go in the egg cup ? Do you have point up or down ?
Answer are very important as he has asked the same question on another forum. Unlike him I'm not going to try and sway opinion by telling you my preference :innocent:

POINT UP

Well I guess I'm out numbered but its point down for me
-
Point up.... then spoon out top with a little salt... then start dunking the soldiers
-
For health POINT UP
And eating point down is unhealthy why? ???
-
Point up for me too and runny enough so I can dip my soldiers in :innocent:
-

weirdo :roflanim:
-
point down, round end up - so it sits in any sized egg cup, and there's room for the spoon, What a bunch of numpties! :eyelashes:

point up in the egg cup but down in the egg box.

They're all numpties too though :innocent: :excited:
-
Point down for me and my family! :)
-
Point up, think there's less chance of spilling yolk.
-
Point down of course! ::) Why would anyone do it the other way round... never heard of that.
-
It's gotta be point up otherwise it's face down in the cup which is just totally wrong. I thought everybody knew that ::)
-
Point down of course! ::) Why would anyone do it the other way round... never heard of that.
One numptie less in the world then - hey, two of us now, Anke! :excited:

I'm a point down too!
-
Can't remember when I last had a boiled egg in an egg cup ::)
-
Point down in our house. Always has been and always will be!!
-
Down
-
point down, if it's a big egg wouldn't be stable balanced on a fat bottom ;D (s'ppose it depends on egg cup though - maybe my old ones were made for smaller eggs.
-
Well we make and sell egg cups and after exstensive research we make our egg
cups so that the egg sits point up (or down).

Point down.
- otherwise it may roll off
- more room for the spoon to come in without breaking the side and spilling the yolk.
- more room for the soldier to come in ditto.
And the other question that goes alongside, cut off with knife or crack and peel - for me, is crack and peel. :)
But these days I am much much much more likely to have poached, or hard boiled, or in a sandwich. Boiled egg and soldiers is for when you are ill, chicken soup for the other meal :unwell:

I tend to peel and wander off eating anyway, if I sit down I see something that needs doing I'm up again.
-
Point up for me.
Interesting debate, this. Has anybody done the statistics yet? ;D

No idea just thought it was funny, but hey doing anything with your bum pointing upwards maybe a little unhealthy ;D
-
Surly we need to think in a logical way.... if the chicken where to place the egg in the cup it would do it point up . seeing as the point is the last thing to come out :innocent: :-J

No isn't it the point that comes out first? It is certainly the hardest to break....

Is it? I never watched! :D
But thank goodness for logic... ;)
-
LOL, this forum is dividing into Big Enders and Little Enders, like Lilliput. :D
PS, I'm a little ender
-
I don't eat them out of an egg cup any more, only peeled and usually from the fridge :)
However, as a point of principle, I was brought up to be a pointy end hitter, then remove and dig out the pointy end and settle in to the rest of the egg. Always tackle the matter head on and remove the hardest obstacle while fresh, leaving the pleasure to be mined and the yolk within reach but not immediately spilling out and wasted. Waste not want not, delayed gratification, patience bringing reward, the essential parenting of the 20th century ;)
So with the benefit of knowing right from downright wrong :-J I can only surmise that the bottom feeders that want the yolk immediately and don't care if half spills out in their hurry, then probably leave the pointy end white as too difficult, not the right shape for the spoon, not interested once they've had the yolk.. yes finally I see the answer, the reason so many folk grew up to be and perpetuate the throwaway, instant gratification generation that is a major problem in our society today. It was all down to bad boiled egg etiquette training by parents after all, either in the current or previous generation :P
All we need to do is get kids eating eggs the right way again (indeed eating eggs in any way that isn't a plastic McMuffin >:( ) and our culture will recover.. 8)
-
The only correct way is your own way
-
Definitely point down - no other way, a light hit with spoon and peel - could do with some breakfast now!
-
This has made me ;D
I'm a point up gal, but only because it's the way my papa used to eat them.
The point down arguement does make sense though......am I too old to change my ways I wonder ? ;)
The only correct way is your own way
I'd say that's a cop out Sandy :innocent: :roflanim:
-
as a young 'un ... point up in an "Eggs on legs" egg cup (remember them?!) and draw a face on with a pencil !
okay, so I still do, given half a chance!
But it does depend on the size of the egg and the cup, turkey eggs and some duck's won't fit one or either way up - maybe Bravissima should make egg cups in various sizes?!
;) :D
-
Just had a thought - did Humpty Dumpty sit on the wall on the pointy end - and that's why he fell! Nothing to balance on. :innocent:
-
I have been giving this a lot of thought..1, I have not had an egg in an egg cup for ???????????????? years, I do love them though! and 2. I probably swap the way I would put them into the cup depending on the size of the egg cup, we have some big Ikea egg cup's and if you put an egg pointy end down in them, they would not be much at the top, so, in those it has to be big bottom down and like the old issue about what way to put a toilet roll on.....I probably would do it different every time!! I may now observe and have an egg tonight!

Anke! I hope that's :-J!
My understanding is that the shell is still slightly soft as the egg comes out, hardening as the air hits it. Hence the pointy end last. And when you get one of those that's ridged (from a free range hen), one has to assume she was interrupted mid-egg! :o
But I quite like the picture Anke paints, of the egg nose-diving out to face the world... :roflanim:
And Annie, Humpty Dumpty was pointy end down, I think you've hit on something there!
-
Never liked him anyway :innocent:
-
I'm just wondering... whether there is any correlation between pointy end up or down and loo roll front or back...
Me, I'm pointy end down and loo roll unrolling from the front.
-
Never liked him anyway :innocent:
Now see - what a klutz. Couldn't tell the difference between a wall and an egg-cup. Not sure there is a safe way to sit on a wall if you're an egg, mind.
-
, then probably leave the pointy end white as too difficult, not the right shape for the spoon,
I have a pointy spoon ;D
if the chicken where to place the egg in the cup it would do it point up . seeing as the point is the last thing to come out :innocent: :-J
surely it's point first, imagine the agony of broad end first :o
-

Not agony as not hard. Is my understanding. Any chook experts want to settle this one? :D

That's enough to put you off having an egg regardless of which way it drops in the cup :roflanim:
-
Boiled egg and soldiers is for when you are ill, chicken soup for the other meal :unwell:
You've confused me now Sally. I know what a chicken is, but what on earth is an egg? (I think I recall seeing one in the dim and distant past, but it's so long ago now that I'm not quite so sure! :-[ )
-
I'm just wondering... whether there is any correlation between pointy end up or down and loo roll front or back...

Don't think so, Sally - I'm pointy end up and loo roll front! ;D ;D ;D

I'm pointy end down - sits on cup more solidly for whacking with spoon
Also allows more room for soldier dipping (as cited before)
And loo rolls - HAS to be unrolling off the front - drives me NUTS when OH puts it the other way round
-
Bert, has the argument been solved now?
-
Thank you for such a fantastic response  to my cry for help, in proving that I'm not a compleat f#€~ing weirdo :innocent: . I'm a point down girl. So most of you were no help at all, and you are wrong :-J :roflanim: .
All of you lovely people that are with me, thank you ,thank you
I'm point down because the air sack is at the fat end so you can beat the crap out of the shell with out damage to the egg. So maybe I am a bit of a f#%$ing weirdo, but not a compleat one. Thanks to all of you that has now been proved.
-
Hi all
My name is Bob and I'm Bert's other half.
I've just joined to thank all you sane and level headed members who are point uppers, it's the only natural way.
Personally I can only feel sorry for all you point downers, obviously something has gone seriously wrong in your lives. ;D
I'd particularly like to thank Ellied for one of the best thought out and reasoned arguments I have every had the pleasure to read
Bert - This in no way proves that you aren't a complete f#%>ing wierdo, we all know you are.
Bob
P.S. Now I'm a member I'll probably stick around and maybe add to some of the more sensible threads on here, that is if you'll have me
-
Welcome to the forum you S.O.B ;D
I'm having boiled egg for my tea, I don't know what your having :-J

Welcome bobh......you and me and a lot of other "normal" peeps on here post some very heavy stuff.....look forward to your posts :innocent:
-
Not sure about the air sack being at the bottom - depends how you cook your eggs!
Anyway I am a point up girl - much better balanced. What else in life would you balance on a point rather than a fat end? (Ooh err!)
-
it's a loooong time since I had a soft boiled egg in a cup (possibly made for me by my mother when i was a kid), but I remember the egg being point up in it's cup.

Luckily most of us think that it takes all sorts, and you should find us fairly accepting of your strange views and mores. :-J
