Anyone any idea what bred these guys are they came from market a couple months back as kune kune pigs but they seem to just keep growing. and any idea what type of meat cuts ect to do as the castrated more will unduly go now that we have the micro pig female to keep the girly company.
-
heinz 57?
-
lol they def to big to be pure kunes, just dont know what meat they will be any good for now lol and dont want to send for sausages as will most prob send one of micro pigs for that.
-
Definitely not kune kunes. They are too big, long and their snouts are pointed rather than squashed. They are probably a cross. Maybe some OSB and/or gloucester old spot. How old are they?

Old spot x kune kune?

I thought may GOS/OSB too
-
i have been thinking old spot they must be around 7-8 months ish now

both have dished/squashy faces - maybe a touch of tamworth to straigthen the nose a bit.
we bought black piglets from the mart once hoping they were large black types, but no idea what breed they were either.
im sure they will taste good
-
yea they seem to have a longer nose than pure kunes but they dont root, what does everyone recon for type of cuts ect obviously still fattening them at min thou and they free range a whole acre paddock with no hassle.
-
Kune x GOS would be my first thought.
We have a Kune x OSB and she's fab  Going off next month, aged 8 months and weighing approx 90Kg liveweight (she eats like a kunekune, 1lb of hard feed per day & grazing, but grows quicker ;))
-
these are eating alot at min and just seem to keep growing rarther than finishing but dont mind keeping them on bit longer as the boar always seems leaner than the sow.
-
Could be a smidgeon of Landrace in there too, looking at the face.
-
As they have got piris there is defo some Kune Kune in them... but not sure what else...
-
What ever it is it must be big as they just keep growing and dont look as heavy as id like as they just shoot up again hope they not going to be to much longer.
-
there was a huge micropig on tv this morning, no company either poor thing.
-
ours got lots of company although noticed the one who abit of a loaner has made friends with one of our sheep is a funny site seeing them walking around together :roflanim:
-
Looks like a WelshXGOSxOSB to me which would explain length, they do have growing spurts where they shoot up and then fill out.
One of our pigs goes off walking with the dog and its funny too becoz it looks like they're having a right old chin wag as they march down the field side by side. ;D
mandy :pig:
-
Lone pigs - look at it this way: if you were kept in a zoo or farm with adequate food, water and shelter and lots of animals around but not a single human being to interact with on any level ..... would you be happy? We're social animals. So are pigs.
-
They are a funny site lol they chase dog around together there def kune kune in there mandy but they very friendly and enjoy a good scratch just trying to get the boar fattened up enough to go is a nightmare lol think they gunna take some time.
