Title: Flock Insurance
Post by: novicesmallholder on August 25, 2013, 02:50:36 pm
Hi all,

we have been trying to get insurance for the flock - primarily theft and PL. Every one we have spoken to has either said no - we dont to this, or yes, but we need to tie in buldings etc, we only have sheds and removable shelters. Can anyone recommend any company - if we have to tie in buildings, boundries etc, so be it if that is all that is on the market.

Not a an of NFU here! They've been royally ripping me off on house insurance just so I can have "smallholding" cover. If you come across any decent providers I'd be very interested to hear too, although I'm looking for a more business type policy.

Held insurance  with COOP/Aviva for many years---I am a grazier with no buildings so PL & theft is my 1st priority
NFU have  always been less than helpful

my nfu in scotland has been really flexible. i already had house insurance with someone else. started with business insurance gradually adding species, stud animal insurance etc plus barns, trailers etc then i closed business so now literally 3rd party. i dont think its cheap tho, was £60 per month , now £30 a month.

Armitage do public liability as do clover ton and lrms. ...Benger also does but can't remember first part of name. Will be around £180-200 but none need to tie in buildings.

I've always got on OK with NFU for the same thing, but I am wondering if they aren't a bit pricey. the reason I have gotten on OK with them, might be because I was given the name of my rep by one of her ex-colleagues who is freinds with my wife though.....

I had the same issues last year. I talked this through with the NFU rep at the smallholders show in Forfar last year. He was most helpful. We made savings on house and car insurance as well. No one was interested in flock only.

I have NFU insurance which covers house, contents all buildings and animals excluding the horses for £44 a month, it also includes public liability. I haven't been able to find cheaper.
