Title: No telly reception, no phone, and no internet .....
Post by: Roxy on August 21, 2013, 01:29:10 pm
Although house is high up, there is a huge banking behind and I think this ruins reception for everything.  Have to go up the path at the side of the house, and along two fields before being able to speak on the phone, and then its only for a minute.  Telly, we can get channel 4. and that's it.  Have turned the aeriel this way and that, to both masts - infuriating that we can see our local mast, and also the ladder hill one at Bolton, but not pick anything up!!  My internet is bad, and drops out after a couple of minutes.

Yeh, I have no mobile signal, no TV, no broadband, because like you, although the house is high up, the fells go up on either side.

I have a landline telephone and I've also had satellite broadband installed because whilst I don't mind no TV, I hate no internet.

Also no mains water, drainage or gas. I do have electricity, which one house in the dale still doesn't - by choice, it didn't reach here til 1969 and one chap reckoned he'd managed without it so far..... :D

I often visit a friend in Perth who has very little internet or TV,they watch videos or have the radio on and he sends E Mails that are very short. We rented a farm house like that, I remember constantly driving down the track to make phone calls on my mobile only to be kept on hold..............by BT!!!!  I hate no internet, can do without TV as long as we have a radio I am fine

I did have b/b when i had the land line , but can't afford either now . The tv analogue signal went over to digital a couple of years ago and although i did get a sat dish and box  i can't be bothered to set it up, so no tv .
Very weak radio signal but can get radio 4 and wales , and very poor almost no signal on mobile , that does give me internet though , albeit very basic on this old mobile . Got leccy here in the caravan on the farm but none down the land .
So once i go down the land full time i won't have any leccy so no tv , only battery radio and no mobile or internet . Will be a compost loo , or bucket and chuckit as i call it , and no mains water . Ah the good life !lol

Get yourself a wind-up radio - it's the only one I use, although I live "in civilisation". And collect urine separately (some toilets do that for you, but it' easy enough to do even without the technical stuff...). Perfect liquid fertiliser! You can really see the difference where you apply it (diluted, of course).

Yes mate , a windup radio and or a solar battery charger are on the list but they cost money .
I know i can just earn some cash and buy them but that puts me back on the merry go round , earn x amount to buy this , earn y amount to buy that , before you know it you need £200 , £500 a week just to get by , been there , done that .
Been slipping off the system for 10 years
or so now , and i am at the point where i think it will be easier to step off completely , than to hang on to the edge where i am atm .
Yes pee is excellent for plants , mixed about 20-1 with water .
Once on the land , that is what will happen , pee for plants or the compost heap , the rest composted for a year then put on the willow for fuel bed once a year . All other manure , cow , sheep , pig , chicken and horse going on the veg plot , the basket willow beds and the land in general .

Roxy, if you have broadband you can always watch tv on iplayer. I've been doing that for the last nearly three years -not that I watch much.

:farmer: "No telly reception, no phone, and no internet" An excellent opportunity to get a life, what on earth did we do before there was all this techno wizardry ? Probably an awful lot more. :farmer:

Freesat should sort the tv. All you need is a cheap dish and a set top box. The later you can get for around £20 on Ebay. All you need to check is that you have reasonable line of sight of the satellite
