Title: day trip to Carmarthen in the morning
Post by: john and helen on August 20, 2013, 09:34:19 pm
just when i was doing all my homework ..another property has come up.... this one means no mortgage and more land.... maybe not as nice as the one before in some ways ..but the options are greater, still a barn to convert, but it has a couple of other barns near by that are already being converted.....and it has a small 1.5 acre wood.... i like that , and to be honest..the land is going away from the neighbours.... so thats good

so off in the morning for a viewing...its been under offer, but the vendor got fed up with waiting  (9months) so he is keen to meet me  :excited:

Camera batts are fully charged  :excited:

just got back.....

where do i start.... the woods where fantastic, really magical..we both loved the wooded area, the field was ok..sloping in all directions, but ok.. we had to crawl under some wire to get to the woods  :roflanim:

the Barn was on a higher slope than we expected, but doable.. would just need to get a big digger in for a few days and create a driveway up to it....

the next door neighbour was 3ft away..closer than i expected, and according to the mother  of neighbour who has turned 3 barns into one dwelling, said the close neighbour was mad as a box of frogs

then tells me her son won't allow any services to pass over his property ...... as he was the one who wants to buy it, but can't get a mortgage......

so this could be very expensive to get electricity there..... (I will mention that to the estate agents)

its very cheap at £85K but if i am honest, my helens face didn't sell it to me,

its been a great experience so far... and i will see what the costings will be to get electric there...
somehow, i didn't get the feeling it was a happy little community  :raining:

it also looks like our other one is under offer.... we don't feel down ,as we said, what will be will be, and now we are in a better position to make offers ..... and the experience we are gaining is priceless...ours is out there..we just need to find the bloody thing  :roflanim:

this is the one we looked at today,,,, http://www.reesrichards.co.uk/ipm/properties/property_details.php?ref=PRB10251&tratyp=Resale&sector=&location=&minprice=&maxprice=90000&minbedrooms=&maxbedrooms=&branch= (http://www.reesrichards.co.uk/ipm/properties/property_details.php?ref=PRB10251&tratyp=Resale&sector=&location=&minprice=&maxprice=90000&minbedrooms=&maxbedrooms=&branch=)

it's always good to take your time - especially if there's uncertainty about near neighbours - and even more so if you may want their permission to lay in services.

personally I'd look favorably on an off-grid property, but that's 'cos renewable energy is sort of a hobby for me (my last 1/4ly energy bill was £2.79 - a new record low  :excited:  ).

The mad neighbour would put the nail in the coffin for me. I'm with Helen on this one.

I wouldn't want to move to the countryside and then find that I have neighbours 3ft away - closer than we had in town... however nice (or mad) they may be...

That's assuming the neighbour whose son want to buy the land isn't trying to put you off. It might be worth meeting her.

our neighbours house is about 4 ft away wall to wall. when they stand outside to smoke it wafts straight through my bedroom window.  the other neighbour is 20 ft away and they are a complete nightmare.
neighbours cause nothing but problems, thats the only reason we are selling my present farm.
keep looking.
