Title: First lambs go for this year.....

Well it's that time again first couple go tonorrow eggs for tea tonight as a sign of respect I'm looking forward to the meat as the pork is rather same old now. Taking a ram and a ewe lamb he weights 41kg!! And her 29kg? Are these ok weights what should I expect back?

Azzdodd, sorry I can't help with your question but was wondering myself if people send this years lambs off or wait until next year.


I see you keep ryelands so is it ryelands lambs that are going off?

Deadweight is usually about 50% of liveweight in ruminants; you'll then lose some in the butchering, especially if they are fat.

Mine arnt ryelands mine are crosses my ewes are zwarble X texel and dad a welsh mine were born jan and feb so there pretty big I keep all my sheep in 1 field so mine have to go or there dad may tup them

Primitives like Shetlands and hebrideans etc would normally go next year. Anything commercial or commercial cross (texel, suffolk, beltex etc) could go this year.


My Shetlands are normally about 35-40 kg live weight and deadweight half that.
