What a shock this morning - driving BH to hospital and for an appointment about his shoulder there was Dolly with a new born lamb!!! So poor BH got abandoned. She lost twins in March and I'd put her in with the ram to keep her away from the ewes in case of anything catching. So she much have been tupped there and then. They are in the safety of the shed for a couple of nights as the lamb is pretty small - sheep are surprising. Here's a pic of Dolly and her ewe lamb snowball (named by BH)

Aw, bless. She'll be a keeper then :)

I'm feeling rather guilty as all the sheep were moved 2 days ago and she was in a bunch that didn't want to go - so my friendly farmer brought his dog - they went round the field twice before going through the gate - Dolly was lagging behind and I said to my friend she's a bit on the fat side!!!

What a sweetie

Awww, well that was a nice outcome ;D

One of my shetlands lambed 2 weeks ago in the field (thankful for the fine weather). I did wonder when I was shearing her. ::) She aborted in Feb and despite my efforts kept 'returning' to the rams paddock. Even when I brought them inside I found her lying on the ground outside their shed. So I gave in and put the 'tart' in with them because at least I knew where she was! Luckily she is not a 'shy' shetland so I left her with the comfort of the flock and gave her nuts for a few days.

Awww, what a nice surprise

I would just vaccinate the newborn lambs as soon as possible, given that the dam was probably not recently boostered with Heptavac. They will not get any passive immunity with the colostrum.

Oh how lovely, no better reason to be a bit on the tubby side!

Thanks for the reminder Anke - 3 weeks I think is the youngest if I remember rightly

I think that's only if the ewe has been recently vaccinated - otherwise you conflict the passive immunity from the ewe with the active immunity from the vaccine. I'd check with the vet - if lamby is getting nothing from Mum, she might ned her Heptavac sooner.

Yes I think if there is no immunity from the dam passed to the lamb, then three weeks is the youngest lamb can have Heptavac.

Could I ask what type of breed of sheep that is , beautiful lamb

Dolly is a white Shetland - I think she's a little on the short side but then again so am I :innocent:
The lamb on the other hand is all leg so will maybe get her height off her Dad!!

Oh I should have recognised then because I keep 5 Shetlands myself :)
