where are you and where's my invite :-)
home made chunky coleslaw with home made mayo dressing
Home made potato salad...
Maybe a bowl of lettuce for any vegetarians...
For dessert if your feeling adventurous home made meringues with seasonal berries and whipped cream.
Well that's what i'd do but i love cooking...

and a massive bowl of roast potatoes  and for desert..some more roast potatoes
and a big apple pie with real DEVONSHIRE clotted cream

If you have 50 coming take the easy route - buy stuff! You want to enjoy it too - it is not a show of your culinary efforts, it's a birthday party fro teh star of the show.
Fresh berries with cream and ice cream or just go to Morrisons and pick up a few of their absolutely delicious cheesecakes for £1 each!

I love salads . you can make pasta or mixed salads of all kinds yummmmm and I am no vegetarian...I also love the idea of apple pie.......I would also have coleslaw, pickles and chutneis and maybe some thing for the vegetarians'......

I would also do an assortment of salads and maybe a cheeseboard - about four different cheeses and crackers or crusty bread. This will suit vegetarians and anyone else who doesn't fancy pork.
My own recipe for punch is to pour a bottle of white wine, a bottle of cider, two litre bottle of lemonade into a punch bowl (or similar), add slices of fruit - apples, oranges, banana and whole grapes look good - and some ice. It always goes down well.

Just had a little tea party for family to celebrate young sons birthday. The little strawberry shortbreads went down a treat.
Home made round shortbread discs ( eggcup size ) sandwiching a filling of whipped cream and strawberries. Mixed a few chopped strawberries into the cream mixture to give texture. Then a liberal dusting of icing sugar :yum:
Since you are in an orchard you could always substitute the strawberries for cooked apple

mmm im going to mammyshaz's for pudding by the looks of it!!!
that sounds nice...
although i think i'd want to use a tea plate for the right portion size for me ;D ;D ;D

Are you having tables with somewhere for everyone to sit at? If not, salad etc. becomes a bit of a challenge, whereas the yummy rolls will be easy.
If it is later in the year, or evening, warm cider and fresh orange juice mixed is lovely, with spices added if you like.
Have a lovely party, love the idea of having it in the orchard.

Don't forget some citronella candles to keep the insect beasties at bay!
Have a great celebration. Cheers.
