im looking for strong hardwearing dog beds and i like the ones that are off the floor. our dogs get muddy in the winter so duvet style beds are a nightmare.
im considering these, has anyone tried them? iv one dog with arthritis and another that digs his bed with his claws.
or would a tuffies be better?

I'd want to try one before buying as the hammock type design is something my dogs won't get onto because it moves (or they think it will) as they put weight on as they get on. They also don't like the tubular bars as edging as they are hard, so would need a very large one to avoid any bits of them being on that uncomfy bit.
Personally a Tuffies would be my vote. Maybe with a heat pad for arthritic dog.

Mine tend to like their basket, we have a large plastic one that I hate the look of but I put some nice fluffy fleece blankets and have made another cover for a dog bed that's gone shabby, we also have a wiker one that's a bit chewed but they like that too, otherwise ours sleep in a cage, I never close it and its full or vet type bedding that washes and dry's super quick, I love the stuff !! If I had the money I would go for a Tuffies bed too, they appear strong and cosy!!
-
We have a giant Tuffies (the waterproof type) and they really are indestructible and you can hose them or do anything to them, they are brilliant. Not cheap, but at least they are worth the money rather than being expensive and disappointing.

My old German Wire was made a raised bed by a friend. A lovely big wooden framed one with deck chair material slung on springs. And a vet bed on top. It looked very comfortable. :excited:
She was encouraged onto it despite great suspicion - food the only motivation with her. She fell asleep, rolled over, fell off, and never went back on it again. :roflanim: :roflanim: :roflanim: We watched it all while chatting quietly, it was soooo funny. I so wish we'd thought of taking a video.
My three have a fibre glass bed with vet beds, an open cage also with vet beds, and half of my bed also with vet beds to sleep on respectively. All easily washed bedding. All very comfortable for my aging furbabies.
-
I have giant Tuffies too. The last set lasted for 5 years through a determined chewer and a different determined 'bed scratcher'.
I've just replaced them with new ones. They are so good, I love that I can just hose them down when they get too awful.
Skerry, demonstrating :)

They look comfy, our cheaper version is still going strong but I made a fleece cover as I do have to wash them often as they get so smelly......I am holding on until we move but depends on where we live I suppose.....In the house I do use old pillows from the B&B and they love to rest there heads on them but if they had their way, they may get de stuffed......our Yellow is the worse fidget out, she messes up all the beds, just recently changed the car and have been fed up with any blanket in the back getting pushed into a pile so they end up on the plastic inner material, carpet would get too wet too quick so now I fill the back up with cardboard and will just throw it out when its ruined, much better at holding any moisture but our Yellow still tries to dig a nest out of it!! Guess we had better get saving for some tuffies
-
We have the mattress from savic dog crate Willow slept inside there when she was tiny. We just have different covers as she doesn't like sleeping on it plain
-
I got a cheap used sewing machine and bought some fleece blankets from B&M and made covers, they also dry quick, I threw out all the old covers that took ages to dry.......
-
The raised beds remind me of a trampette or trampoline. All I can say is that my Flattie loves to curl up and sleep on the trampette. Sure he would love one.
Dogs in kennels are often given palettes to sleep on and they like those .... similar principle.
-
I had a bed chair from Ikea that I used when we last had pups, it was comfy but it was very hard to get out of as I sunk down with the saggy canvas.....its gone now but I now use the sponge matteress that's in small pieces covered in linen type material, to line the 3 dog cages, they wash well too surprisingly.....I suppose in some ways an old chair or sofa ould be better!! we never ever allow any dog on our sofa's!
-
We have Barka Parkas for ours - they are now 10 years old and still look good. They aren't waterproof though, and although you can get a waterproof cover, I find it doesn't stay on very well. You also have to top up the beans periodically.
We have two dog ones and one cat one - Meg (one of our BCs) sleeps on the cat one sometimes and the cats sleep in the dog ones during the day.
Tess has a raised bed - we call it the sofa ;D
-
raised beds are really common in australia and i always liked them as they can just be hosed down but i dont think they are very cosy for the winter. i want to touch one really and see if its strong enough for a hefty labrador. (tho hes not that hefty anymore as hes been on a diet - now he can crawl under the gate and get titbits off the neighbours nextdoor! tut tut came home with gravy on his chin the other day )
we have a sometimes urinary incontinent dog so need something easy to keep clean.
the raised bed advert looks like a new company which worries me as iv bought horse rugs off a new company before and they were expensive but useless. when you have 4 to buy its a costly mistake.
iv never heard a bad comment about tuffies so maybe try one of those first.
-
We had a Tuffie but by indestructible I don't think they included a chewing standard wire Dachshund ::) it lasted 11 days before the corners where all chewed off
-
One of my collies would bunch up anything between his front paws and chew the corner off. I got into Tuffies because, in their range, they had some oval beds with no corners to chew
-
I got tuffies for my old pair of collies and they were fantastic for them - unfortunately Zip is on his second in 2 years those sharp young collies teeth seem to love nibbling holes :innocent:
-
we have ordered our first tuffie so waiting delivery, i didnt realise they are made just up the road from me!
i was also going to order a little raised bed for the little dog but got fed up with trying to find an available user name in the checkout so gave up. why do companies want so much info from you when all you want to do is buy the product? they lost a sale there as i dont have patience for faffing around with usernames and login details.
if the tuffie is as good as the testimonials then we will get 3 more so fingers crossed.
its my gsd's 10th birthday soon so any excuse !! ;D ;D ;D ;D
will post a photo when it comes !
-
 , I would love them for our pack but not until we move.......I hate all the information they ask for, they just sell it on for money........my brother went to a shop to buy a laptop a few years ago and walked out as they wanted so much information.....
-
My dog has a cage, up off the floor, with several layers of vetbed and a huge sheet of underlay over the top to cut out drafts. In the winter one section of underlay hangs over the door as a flap.
Vet bed is great stuff - really wicks the moisture away.
-
I use a cheap version of vet bed and love it, washes and drys very quickly and it's nice and snugly.....are dogs watch Tv with us but then go the their bedrooms, we are lucky enough to have a great potting shed lean too and a conservatory type lean too......although imminatle the potting sheds also going to be mine and the pups bed room for a few weeks soon, I love it
-
Am I the only one that no matter what dog bed you buy in whatever colour / material, they always end up on the sofa? :innocent:
-
Not our collies they don't like living in the house (and the Doberman would eat them), their waterproof Tuffies with wicking covers arrived today and they look very snug in their new bespoke kennels!
-

And the bed :-[
-
No dog we have or had would ever be allowed on a bed or a sofa.....they would stink :huff:
-
Our tuffie arrived and we are really pleased with it, looks hard wearing and generous sizes so 2 large beds is enough for our 4 dogs. The kids have been playing on it so it must be comfy. I wouldn't mind a similar mattress for caravan actually. ;D
Our dogs get so messy with mud in winter and pond water in summer, they are restricted to 1 room in the house. They used to have free run of the house but the amount of housework they create is ridiculous, especially as they roll in any poo they can find and stink. :o
-
I know what you mean about muck, we have cream carpets and magnolia walls :innocent:
-
someone has chewed the corner off of the new bed - it lasted all of 6 days in new condition.  it was £130 and took ages to save up for - do they appreciate anything??? :gloomy:
-
Oh dear, that's one reason I do not buy anything that looks attractive, we bought a lovely wicker one and the corners were chewed very quickly, I think they like to create their own individual look....naughty dog
-
Tuffies sell a moulded bed which they offer a money back guarantee on if chewed, it's the only model they dare do this on,
Our new Tuffies with wicking covers have been excellent, one of the dogs had an toiler accident while we were away, and the dog sitter could just remove the cover and hose it down and it was dry a couple of hours later.
-
In all those pictures the only dogs that look happy (and that's only because of their lolling tongues) are the 2 big dogs, I think all the others are being told to 'STAY'.
These tuffies sound good. We found some furry (faux Sheepskin?) underblankets when we cleared my dads house, very useful folded up and on the bean bags.
-
even though they are expensive, itl save me money on washing and drying the sleeping bags that were covering their old beds. i wanted the waterproof element so i will have to cover the hole when i hose it down.. :innocent:
-

I think I'd need one of those for Skip ::) - but couldn't see one on their online shop. I'm going to measure his pen for the 'unchewable' one then will phone them to see if they still have ovals as I have a plastic bed I could put one of them into.
Every year he gets an allergy to some mite that's in the hay or straw and gets bald/scratchy patches. Usually it's controlled by three months' Frontline but not this year :(. So I think it's time for a manmade bed for the old faithful. :dog:

i caught the terrier red-handed this morning pulling out the stuffing...tut tut..i will have to get some more chews to keep the occupied and hope it doesnt set off any fights. the labrador scoffs everything insight so need something longlasting.
i might see if tuffies can repair it as they are only an hour away from me. then spray all the corner with anti-pecking spray (excellent stuff, stopped my daughter from sucking her fingers straight away and it was her idea!) ;D ;D

One of our Labs likes to nest or de stuff things although she has a lot of teddies that are in tact and the funny thing is, she is starting to steal the puppy toys.....I now just use old pillows and make a pillow case from large fleece coves or vet bedding, I have the hard bed but its also a bit big for a small room, our room is large and it tucks into a corner, I would love a purpose build bed but then can see why people use their sofa!

We have to have a sofa in the living room where the Doberman sleeps that doesn't have any removable cushions at all. The Ikea Klippan ones are the ones we use, it's surprisingly hard to find ones without the removable cushions but those dont. However they aren't the most comfy sofas (but at least they are cheap and have removable covers)

Thanks - that's the page I am on. Perhaps jaykay meant the unchewable moulded one when she said they did oval ones; I had imagined she meant they did an oval flat bed, like the rectangular ones but oval.
-
we have Ikea pretend leather sofas and they are virtually indestructible!! I would love to chop and change sofas but the ones we have are so practical with messy me and husband and dogs!! When I go into B&M, a cheap store that sells all sorts, the throws that are lovely and fluffy, are cheaper than most dog bedding, I bought 2 and have made them into covers, well I have done one as my sewing machine has come unthreaded :innocent: , I love them but would like a good zip in them......I think dogs like curved beds (or sofa's)
-
I bought oval flat beds the first time, not the moulded ones, but this time when I bought the new ones, they didn't seem to do the oval ones - shame.
The rectangular ones I did buy do have rounded off corners so it does help - they would still be hard to get a 'mouthful' of.
-
I can really recommend the Really Tough Tuffie. With 5 dogs, various breeds, these are the only ones I have found that they cannot chew and destroy! Have also got the waterproof flat bed for my GSD but when my springer 'got to it' he managed to chew the corner even though it is quite a tough material. Hope that helps.
-
tuffies have offered to sew it back up again - but the terrier has started on the other corner now. its not even his bed - its for the lab with sore elbows ..grrr
i wonder how chewable a raised bed is. £160 for a really tough tuffie does raise my blood pressure a wee bit. :relief:
