Hi, I'm fairly new to Chicken Keeping and so I am grateful for any advice whenever any problems arise. I have 4 Black Rocks who are about 27 weeks old now, all are laying generally 1 egg each, every day (apart from one who went broody in the hot weather for a couple of weeks but she's back to normal now!) I'm already addicted to this chicken keeping lark and now wish I had got a couple more as I have plenty of room for them. I live in the South East of England with my husband, 3 almost grown up daughters, a 10 year old Jack Russell we inherited from my late mother and my 4 lovely Black Rocks. I'm looking forward to reading and participating in this forum, so Hi to you all.

Hi BlackRocks, and welcome. :)
Hens are addictive, so if you've got the space I've no doubt you'll fill it soon!
Everytime I turn my back Rosemary seems to have 'acquired' more animals, but I'm not complaining (really). :chook: :chook: :chook:

Hello. I got my first chickens only a few months ago after never thinking that I would like to keep them as I had always kept ducks. Anyway, I rescued 1 and then got her some company as I did love having them. Now I have 7 and another 4 coming in a few weeks. They are great wee characters and I love the noise they make and the welcome they give you each time they see you. When I don't have the fox threat my lot free range with all the goats, ponies and the goose and we never have a problem.

Black rocks are fine - I believe, but why not do some re-homing now? Ex batts?

Firstly, thanks very much to everyone's lovely welcome messages. I would certainly love to get another couple of hens and would consider getting a couple of ex bats, but I would be worried that my Black Rocks would bully them. What do you think? I would be able to keep them in a separate part of the run to begin with during the day but they would have to go in together at night.
