Title: Milk tastes different....
Post by: Sbom on July 21, 2013, 09:08:17 pm
I have been looking after my mums milking goat for a few days and also we have our own little milker. Now the milk from our goat is really lovely and creamy but the milk from my mums has a nasty after taste.
Ours is a little Alpine and mums is a Tog x Saan.
Is this down to the breeds or is the Tog lacking something mineral wise?
It's fine for cheese but you wouldn't want it in your tea!

If it's a goaty taste a mineral drench with cobalt usually puts things right.

Are they on different diets/ grazing?

Well, one lives in Staffordshire and one a mountain in Wales. But they are both on the same hard feed and both have red Rockies to lick.
Will get mum to try the drench
Thanks
