Title: flies
Post by: northfifeduckling on July 28, 2009, 05:51:37 pm
I was advised to hang the carcass of our drake for a couple of days - already the flies are on it (it's in the shed as we don't really have the facilities to hang a dead bird in the house) and already the flies are on it. Any ideas how to keep them off or does it not matter as it will be cooked in 2 days time?  :&>

If you could make a meat safe out of some old net curtains , that would keep the flies off !!
The flies are laying eggs on the corpse , and if kept more than a few days they will hatch and  you will have plenty of fishing bait ...ie maggots ... :o  ENJOY !!!!

cheers

We hand poultry for 24 hours but we put it in cheap pillowcases that we bought for that purpose.
