Sorry but I found it first, I posted on one of the current affairs threads, post office one I think, last week so it's all mine!  Just didn't get the right lottery ticket yet, but have bought another one so hands off  ;D

Unless anyone would like to timeshare or possibly landshare with me of course, but has to be someone happy to live off grid as there are no services, and I'd prefer someone with a boat to get to the Coop on Benbecula for coffee supplies occasionally..

The reality of renovating the croft would be challenging even with a lottery win in the bank...

Everything has to come in by sea...

Bloomer, you're on    You can have the stone building since you can probably renovate it, but I may need help to build my log cabin across the other side so we both have privacy when you're in residence  :eyelashes:

Post was in the Cairo heat thread by VF incidentally, 13 July so  :P HelenVF, but even if you do buy it as a holiday home you'll need a year round resident caretaker and I reckon Bloomer and I could jobshare so any way's a winner..

i think the whole concept of door locks would be optional up there...

the details suggest the land can support 200 sheep on 970 acres that's not many really, definitely going to have to be a holiday home!!!

I can learn to do boats

ok shopping list so far,

island 500k

sort house got to be 500k with access issues

boat and a jetty in the bay to make getting ashore easier 200k

200 sheep and some chickens (cheap by comparison)

oh and then we need a wind turbine (bet they refuse planning)

hmmm starting to think it needs to be a big lottery win!!!

bet the fishings good round there though!!!

Bloomer, you're only planning a summer stay - I have the chooks and enough Highland ponies to be trained to do most crofting and transportation work, haul peats, sheep checking etc.  My shopping list is therefore quite a lot shorter:

Island £500k - offset by sale of 10 acre Fife smallholding with mature orchard but need the lottery for securing purchase prior to knowing what the sale will make at closing, plus the inevitable extra, plus the rest of my list..

Polytunnel a must, preferably 2

Transport out for a dozen or so Highland ponies, 20+ chooks and key equipment/personal possessions

Log cabin with solar panels

Generator for emergencies

Animal housing, a large solid barn for everything including equipment

Probably need a milk cow, perhaps with a heifer calf and in calf, a Shetland probably most likely to thrive - could milk a sheep but I've a sore back so it'd have to stand on a table!

Reckon I could arrange a weekly, maybe monthly boat visit from Benbecula without having to  buy a boat, but if I could get a wee one that would do me fine

I can manage with a camping stove but a raeburn would be my luxury item if it's a good lottery winning..

sorry my list was just for the summer months  :excited: :excited: :excited:

ok i'll cut the sheep back to say 50 as there only there to keep the grass down and once a year fill everyone i knows freezer,

what about goats as the milk supply? they can be quite hardy can't they?

I was just about to offer to join the gang with my goats.

MGM that would be fab, I could cope with goat milk but not with goat handling, tho I'll offer a pony to round them up on  But you wouldn't be MGM anymore, you'd be MIG, Mad Island Goatwoman  ;D

Bloomer if that's your summer list then I suppose I am in for the sheep keeping while you're away, so I'm going to need to upgrade my demands on your labour skills tho I can't see decking being quite right unless it has galeproof conservatory storm doors all round it  ;D   Maybe you could build a jetty for my boat, that's pretty much decking and would also be a good picnic site and swim base so I need to buy a wetsuit cos I can't see the water being warm very often..  ;)

So, when are we going to view?

id like to point out i have skills beyond decking  :P :P :P

in fairness the water there shouldn't be to bad in the summer have dived all up the west coast and its often very pleasant in the water...

i did look at going for a site visit, but apparently unless i already have a boat its a bit tricky!!!

wonder if i can use a kiddies dingy!!!

shame there arent more houses on it or we could set up a commune. im in for 25% if theres a school nearby?  ::)
you need barns though for my ponies and cattle.

I could live with changing my name. I suspect I would be DIVORCED Mad Goatwoman though.  :roflanim:

No worried. I am a teacher. I'm not fit enough to do any manual stuff so my contribution can be the teaching and admin.

okay mrs b says were in for 10% (not sure how she thinks we'd fund it)

she's a social worker so we'll have to find her some proper work to do...

we have 4 kids so looks like the school will have to be an early fixture!!!

although my 11 and 12 year olds say they'd rather work please!!!

I've got 4 kids as well so a few more and we've got a school full!!

I can contribute 2 dogs, 2 cats, 4 kids and an OH who works in IT - hmm do you think they've got broadband?!  :D
Title: Re: Island for sale
Post by: bloomer on July 18, 2013, 10:33:30 pm
it clearly says no services, so once we have sorted electric (i still think a wind turbine and battery bank is the easy option up there) and a few other minor bits we can get satellite broadband which is good but very expensive for initial start up.

Is Mr IT ok to do manual labour in the meantime please!!!

Mrs B has currently got it worked out that if we sell everything we can afford 10% of the island but not afford to build a house yet!!!

:P sorry, was joking about the broadband! Satellite sounds good tho!

Mr IT very happy to do manual labour, plenty of energy and enthusiasm although lacking skills as we've only just managed to get hold of a piece of land  :)

Oh dear, I think once into 10 families (10% ownerships) and double figures of kids the place may be a bit crowded for me  :o   I don't mind summer visiting in rotation but all those folk moving in full time, I don't know, I've only got one couple next door here and she's talking of selling next year and the idea of one unknown new neighbour/couple/family is scary enough!

There again, the anxiety over changing neighbours might be incentive to sell up now while there are lovely ones who like ponies and buy eggs and don't complain about muddy gateways in front of their kitchen window or the cockerel crowing or the stallion "working" every 10 minutes at ungodly o'clock outside their back door..

Anyone want a 10 acre holding in Fife with mature orchard, veg plots, hen run, 4 paddocks and an old pole barn that needs the extension re-roofed or potentially a new barn built if you had the funds and wanted bigger/better..  But conditions of sale includes waiting for entry til I secure the island or somewhere else to move to - 12 ponies at livery for 6 months plus 3 cats in a cattery and rent on a cottage for me and my sale money might have run out before I got anywhere  ::)

Guess that is the pictures of Summer and is as good as it gets. No trees because the wind is so strong they tear out of the little topsoil available. Used to love Mull as we went either end of the season when the wind was strong enough to blow the midges away. Having said that I could still see myself living there, huddled in front of a peat fire with a bottle of single malt whisky (Jura).

I wonder if there's a bigger island for sale somewhere? Sounds like we're going to need it.  ;D
