Isn't it incredible? And to cap it all, one of my bantams hatched her first ever chick! A bit damp still but very yellow and cheepy.

I spoke to my brother and he only watched the end and said, he though he would loose if he watched......well I only watched the last point...so he must have won due to me watching (Mind you a bit  peed off that I was franticly cooking all the 10p veg that would be going off tomorrow  , thanks to my bargain hunter of a husband we have a mountain of stir fry and a mountain of Lamb stew)
He may relax a  bit now  he has done it all and I suspect Dunblane will now bring a nicer memory to people now!

Well we enjoyed the match, proper tennis with rallies not just bashing big serves . Well done Andy Murray, god to have something to be proud of. (and I am a sassenach).
Lovely last comment happygolucky and quite right

Great he won, an exciting match and Djocovic is a gent.  Hope it doesn't make the Scots too patriotic and they vote for independance or I'm first in the queue out of here  :D

Well done to him !
Now all he needs is an extra note in his voice and he'll be laughing , er well ok that may be expecting too much . The impossible he has done , miracles may take longer !
So glad he did it though , and he beat the number 1 too . Pressure off the poor sod now .

He does NOT whinge.  He gets a barrage of stupid inane questioning after every match, at a point when he is physically exhausted.  How would you like it!  He is a shy young man who concentrates on what he does best and doesn't have a lot to say otherwise.   we are all different and it is a good thing that we are.

And as Sandy says, it will perhaps let people think of Dunblane less of a site of a massacre and more of the normal, beautiful and historic little town that it is.  It should also be noted that he regularly donates a great deal of his winnings to charity - voluntarily.

The Gold Post box in Dunblane has a Saltire draped over it tonight!  We are proud of our fellow countryman and what he has achieved, and rightly so.  Would you take that away from us and try to do us down. just TRY!

Well I won't raise a cheer, (don't worry it won't be missed) I have worked for this country, that is Great Britain, with people from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Island all over the world and although had banter I am proud to say the people I have served with, none have been racist like murray. I won't hold that against you though.
Title: Re: COME ON ANDY
Post by: doganjo on July 08, 2013, 09:35:01 am
That is just plain out of order.  We are the most UNRACIST nation in the world.  We tolerate and welcome anyone into our country (even sassenachs  :innocent:  ;D)

Andy is a proud Scot and the rest of us proud Scots are proud of him.  That does not mean that either he or we are racist.

The political argument is totally unrelated to this magnificent win.

Quote from Alec Salmond, a view which I share.
"Andy Murray didn't win the men’s final at Wimbledon BECAUSE he’s Scottish, and nobody would be so stupid as to suggest that.

Nor did he win it DESPITE being Scottish. He won it because he has a natural ability which was nurtured and built upon over many years of hard work, which has nothing to do with where he comes from.

However, he is still Scottish… AND British. The funny thing is that if Scotland does vote for independence next year, he’ll still be both – as will all citizens in Scotland. The UK does not hold copyright on the term ‘British’ – it relates to the island which Scotland, England, ireland, and Wales all share – Great Britain. It’s a geographical name, not a geopolitical one."

I just knew this thread would end up like this    Now  no way have I got time or the memory to google British winners of anything but I wonder  how many  have been born outside the UK  but still the win is for GB......you can be born in Poland and still represent Britain for goodness sake...... :innocent:

This is the only warning I will issue

This thread is to celebrate a great sporting achievement, not to discuss politics. If it persists comments will disappear with no further warning and/or the thread will be locked.

If you want to discuss politics go open a thread in the current affairs room so people can ignore it more easily!

Was he the one chasing the bright yellow ball when I flicked the news on last night. Looked a wee bit hot and bothered .... why would anyone do that? ??? :sofa:  Soooooo, don't get sport of a competitive sort. A totally foreign concept to me ... can't help it. Must be genetic as daughter as inherited it or is that nurture  .

But, oh well, congratulations Mr Murray ..... wherever you originate from.  ::) :trophy:

 Thanks Bloomer  :relief:  and did anyone what the TV programme about him? , not sure what night it was on but he has always been a very focused young man, now I was not remotely interested for a start but it was truly fascinating and  from watching you could clearly see why and how Andy was so focused and appears as he is....I am sure I would be grumpy if I had to sit in an ice bath!!

Kudos for him donating the prize money. Just another item to add to demonstrate that he isn't in it just for the money.

I always thought it was great of him to stand by RBS in 2008/2009, when he was prepared to renogiate his deal to save RBS money as they were cutting most of their sports sponsorship. He wanted to say to thank you to them for supporting him since he was 13.

I wonder how much you have to have in the bank before you think you have enough?  I'm not being sarcastic, just thinking what a wonderful thought it would be to donate a large enough sum to make a difference, even if it saves just one life.

And, even better, to be 26 years young, good looking, talented and have it all including humility.  OH says Andy also gave his winnings from a previous competition to cancer charity too, this isn't the first time he's done it.  :trophy:

I listened to his mother giving an interview yesterday - she also has humility - asked 'you must be very proud of him?' the answer was a very quiet 'well, yes'.  I'd have been screaming it from the rooftops!

And incidentally, my previous comments should be read properly - they were in no way political, merely statement of fact - he could be anyone's son in any country. Just so happens he's here.

the programme about him last night was a real tear jerker. i knew he was from dunblane but i never realised he was at the school at the same time as the tragedy.

Shygirl, that was the programme I was talking about, I am not a fan of anything much, just dogs!! but, we started to watch that I think it was last week, and I found it touching and riveting, he is such a lovely unassuming person, maybe a bit over focused about winning but that's what's made him who he is, I also had no idea he was at the school at the time too........I am so glad I watched as otherwise I would have just thought of him as a quiet champion when really he is so much more!!  Well done and if I were his mummy I would be wearing an  I love my son T shirt with his photo on and telling everyone just how proud I am of him.......... :excited:

He hid under a teacher's desk when the shooting was going on - he was very lucky to escape and it has probably traumatized him for life.

its so terrible. i cant deal with child killers since having my own. just heartbreaking. i think its scarred everyone for life. its so good for dunblane to have a happy ending and be remembered for something positive. it makes you look at Andy in a different way too.

I hadn't noticed, I must admit.  Perhaps it happens occasionally - my son-in-law resembles my late husband, but neither he nor my second one looked anything like my Dad
