Cameron's lost my two wee birdies! :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
He'd better find them before I get there tomorrow afternoon :innocent: :fc:
I have their cage all set up to be rat proof; food and bedding for them - egg boxes orders, and lots of people wanting eggs! So get out there and look, Cammy! :eyelashes:
-
Now thats not on. A home all ready and nothing to go in it.
Lets hope he finds them :fc:
-
Not the Marans I hope, but whatever it is that's upsetting. :(
-
No, Sue, the 5 Marans are safe in the dog run in my garage alongside my 6 adult hens - no problems with them. They are growing fast. I had opened the pophole for them this morning but one of my bitches is very 'birdie' and she was hassling them so I've shut them in again.
I was offered 2 Chinese Painted Quail that Cameron found and he's only gone and let the little brats escape!
-
i'm hunting!! spend the afternoon crawling the hedge!! Typical!!!! was doing so well aswell!
anyone got any ideas other than luck!!!
In the dog house!! :gloomy:
-
Whops ::) .............can you imitate the mating sound of a Chinese Painted Quail, that will get their attention :innocent:
-
whoops - mine escaped aswell (we had about 10 japs in a avairy tho they escaped one by one as we never had double doors) - never saw a glimpse of them ever again.
-
They do often return. Not sure about these 2 because Cameron hadn't had them for long. Leave the pen door open and keep checking. Daughters "favourite" male flew away but returned after 3 days. ::) Others are back within an hour or so. You have to look hard ..... often skulking around near the pen.
-
Ah well, if he hasn't found them by the time I get there today, I'll just have to go back to plan B and buy some! :gloomy:
-
Are they back?

:fc: , I think Anne has gone quail shopping :innocent: , I saw a big bird cage for sale in one of the local charity shops too, that's unusual, particularly has you wanted one Anne...the one on the same side of the road as the £1 shop.......I do not go into Alloa much but do enjoy a good browse around the shops!
-
Oh dear, they are so small, they can easily hide in some long grass. I have seen a Mum and about 10 youngsters along the lane - obviously living in the wild. They all jumped onto the wall, then fell over to the other side, and followed mum!!

Yes, I saw it - I used to enjoy our charity shop browses too :'( The cage was £35 and was smaller than the dog cage I was going to use. Unfortunately Cameron hasn't found the wee brats so I am currently quail-less! But we had a lovely chat and I met this super dogs, his dad, and the ducks and chickens. Thanks for the very welcome cup of refreshing tea and the use of the facilities, Cameron. It was a long drive home at that time and in that heat. Car was registering 25 on the way back. Just as well my aircon works, even tough it's a bit noisy!
-
£35 is a lot in my opinion........no air conditioning in my car so dogs get walked in the morning or at night.......Good luck with the Quail search!!

Only Allez was with me as he'd been at his hydrotherapy session, we left him damp so he was nice and cool.
I did almost buy eggs on eBay but it was 18 and I chickened out :innocent: in case they all hatched!
-
Still hunting for them! just incase! but it's looking un-likely. it was great to put another face to a name!
and of course meet Allez! ;D

they finish quite quickly and taste delicious. hatchlings are the size of bumble bees, rather cute and dont take up too much space.

I know how they taste, that's why I wanted a few hens. However, I've found someone close by who is selling eggs so he may also have young birds. Busy this week so will call him next week.
